    A question about Firefox.

Recieved an email from Microsoft stating they will no longer be supporting
    XP from April 14th.
I like XP and cant afford to buy another PC anyway.

This morning I saw an add stating that Firefox is the way to go for safety after April 14th. Is it ?

If I install Firefox do I need to change my email address and other stuff connected to what I am currently using ?

    Ta.

Firefox is just a web browser, much like Internet Explorer, Chrome etc.

I wouldnt be concerned, just means you wont get anymore annoying update messages, there will be no change to the way XP works.
Firefox is a better browser then EI so make the change.

    XP end

    I to received the message

I don't know enough on the matter, but a bit of investigation revealed this

WINDOWS XP NO MORE SECURITY PATCHES

When Windows XP Support ends in April, it means that Microsoft will no longer be issuing any security updates for this operating system. You'll still be able to download and update patches up to this date, but if a new flaw in the operating system is discovered, it will go unpatched. Potentially, this means that hackers could target the new flaw, letting them infect a Windows XP machine.

As you can see, then, Microsoft's decision to stop releasing updates for Windows XP is actually only one part of the security puzzle. This is good news, as it means it's still possible to defend your computer against threats, as we'll show you.

I have XP in one of my LT and I do not care about the future security patches because I do not use the MS mail software like Open Access.
Regarding protection for virus or malware I use a combination of Malwarebytes and Microsoft security Essentials.

My old XP laptop is a platform for RAVE, runs Google Chrome as a browser, and only checks email, banking and visiting a Very Naughty site.

I switched back from Firefox to IE on my Vista Home Basic.

I found that 2or3 times after an update , Firefox caused me to lose punctuation on this site when posting. A switch back to IE fixed the problem and once on IE I saw no reason to return to Firefox.

Yep, I use both IE and Firefox. Both work well on most sites but there are a few sites for each that they are absolutely hopeless with.

We wouldn't be having these problems if nobody updated from Xtree!

I gave up supporting XP (and Windows generally) years ago. A little Linux package I have does all my web browsing, word sheeting, spreadsheeting etc free. Downside is not so good for gaming. Still have to use Windows if I want to use legacy products ie I have invested the money in buying, like CAD programs and home movie editing programs. No need for virus protection programs.

One of the advantages of Linux is that it does not require big resources for the CPU so the little 10" LT work like a dream with it and are very slow under windows.
IMHO the 10" LT are a better proposition than tablets.
