Ex-Army Unimog in Vic Auction - Stalling at idle. Simple reason/fix?

thats why you hit the exhaust brake and ignore the clutch while cadence braking on the foot brakes (and if you had a trailer on fanned the trailer brake actuator up)

the exhast brake would flick it back to idle (most times past it and into shutdown.

Dave, you have probably lost most of the readers here when you mention cadence braking.

I was never taught it in the Army.

Most would not know what it is.

Probably not...

For those interested it's sort of simulating abs braking by pulsing the pedal.

Done right it has one advantage over threshold braking and that's that it is like abs so of you start side slipping you have a chance to correct before it gets too far out of hand as theturws will be turning and gripping as opposedtoocking and sliding.

On good black top threshold braking is the way to go in a mog if your stopping in a straight line, if you do.it right.

Cadence braking is the go for pat other situations, if you can do it right.

If you cant do.it right just do what most people do these days just grab all the brakes you can and hope.for the best

That discrepancy may be because the vehicle has been serviced on elapsed time rather than distance.

I have known of Air Force vehicles that were driven quite small distances, but were regularly serviced after a fixed number of months. So a lot of services were done and a lot of pages of the service book were filled in, giving the impression that they had done more kms than they had.

It may be that the odometer reading was correct. It doesn't matter now that vehicle has gone, but may be something to keep in the back of your mind for future reference.

I know of 2 vehicles that failed to go more than 15KM between major services....

I was once towing a 8 tonne trailer with 4000 litres of Avtur and 4000 litres of Avtur on the Mog. Back tyre of the mob blew out and took out the first tyre on the trailer. My mate was asleep with his feet out the window. We had a few tense moments as I tried to guide it between a few trees. You should have seen the look on his face when he woke up. When we came to a stop the engine was screaming as the hand throttle was still on. Fun day.
