    Dealer rip off..

I've just got off the phone after ringing 2 dealers(1 x bmw, 1 landy) to find out how much the blue coolant is.

The difference in price is staggering.
BMW dealer ; 1 litre of blue concentrate = $16.85
    Landy dealer ; 1 litre blue coolant = $154.00

Was lucky I was already sitting down...what a rip off..
Guess where I'm getting my coolant from...

    cheers

Probably meant to be $15.40 +GST so they moved the decimal point...because they could!!! Could be worth asking them why the difference ...or pointing out they have a misprint in their parts pricing!

elderly relly's Volvo S4 uses similar blue coolant stuff. The parts place charged about $40 for a litre of concentrate... apparently it is only changed every 10- 15 yrs.. or if it needs draining for other engine work.... the owner's manual advises that you decant into a clean container and re-use!

    ^^ Quite possible.
Some years ago I queried a similar price discrepancy (and suggested a possible misplacement of the decimal point) with LRA between 'Fir Tree' fasteners that I had purchased for the door cards on Defenders and Discoverys. They acknowledged their error and sent me a refund!

It was the same when I asked for 7 litres of auto transmission oil for my Freelander 2. The LR dealer wanted $960 just for the oil. The local auto guy did the whole service including oil for under $200.

Thats what I want to do next week......change the coolant.

Its got the red coolant in it at the moment.

After I drain it,I'm going to fill with water,go for a very short drive, drain, fill with water, drain then the blue will go in as long as there's no red left in it.
Just hope I don't get any airlocks in it.

    cheers
