Riding for the disabled appreciate help. My daughter, also Lauren, used to volunteer when she was in primary school.

My middle daughter, Lauren, is looking to do work experience, or to help out somewhere, to do with animals. We were thinking a Vet Surgery, RSPCA or similar, but they are unable to carry insurance for someone of her age. Animal Welfare League don't do volunteers at all, and pony clubs etc, aren't interested unless you are a member.
So, just wondering if anyone can suggest somewhere, or knows someone in the field, that may be able to assist? We were thinking an hour or so after school, 2 days a week, and then maybe a week full time during holidays. Yes, she will be doing it for the experience, and does not expect to be paid for it.
She has had her heart set on being a Vet since she could say the word, but as she is only 13 at the moment, it is proving difficult to find someone to give her the opportunity to experience "the real world".
Many thanks for any & all your help.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I have a friend with a whole menagarie who would probably appreciate help, but the far side of Gawler might be too far to go.
Would probably be welcome, but would return a different person. Can she cook?
Baz,
I would suggest Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital - Home would be a good start..
is at north plympton though (cnr ANZAC and MARION rds)
This hospital was officially opened last month by the Govenor Rear Admiral SCARCE and are into it full tilt already.
(my mother and father helped this along, dad died before it was finished but mum has been driving it hard along with Dr Phil HUTT.. )
We are pretty proud of what theyve achieved

Services
Rescue, Rehabilitation & Release
Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital's main goal is to treat, rehabilitate and release native wildlife that may have become injured or orphaned from their natural environment.
Where appropriate, we may also need to arrange long term care for animals which can’t be released back into the wild.
Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital is a not for profit organisation and our treatment and rehabilitation services rely solely on the generosity and support of others.
Education & Awareness
We believe that knowledge and understanding is an important factor to securing the future of our wildlife. The hospital is involved with education and awareness programs for school students, carers, veterinary students and the general public.
Research & Development
Sustainability is key. Aside from saving the lives of our precious wildlife when they are in need, Adelaide Koala & Wildlife Hospital supports research into the medical treatments and key health factors for Koalas to help ensure their long term survival.

If its not too far maybe worth enquiring? -They deal with native animals etc (including birds and reptiles if required, basically in everything from abandoned or heat stressed to dog attacks or car related injuries.. I'm not sure what level of volunteer work they are doing at the surgery etc there..
also do talks for schools and groups...
worth a thought... maybe even speak to the busy vet next door to them and split the time?? as I said just a thought..
cheers

Thats not that far from work, so a good idea for school holidays.
It would do her the world of good to see a variety of animals. She wants to be a country vet, dealing mainly with cows, horses, sheep & the like, but no doubt will also get plenty of natives to deal with as well.
I now have a little over 3 years to find the 130 duel cab, with tray, painted in olive drab that she has requested....![]()
