    Well here is a scam.

Well this is a work place scam. I am a metals trade person, or in the old days a fitter or a tool maker, was a toolmaker but those jobs are rare now in labour hire. Any way as I mentioned I get my work through labour hire and work is a bit quiet. So get a offer of some trade assistant work. Fine I thinks will do for a bit till a better paying job comes up. I normally get about $35 per hour casual as a fitter. Trade assistant is about $25 per hour casual or at least with this job. Turns out this mob is trolling labour hire company's for trade assistants with mechanical back grounds. Then if they find that the mug is a fitter that is between jobs all good for them. They have , can`t see why, gone through several fitters who have said no to any fitting work as they have been hired as a T A. That is the catch, refuse to do more than you should and it`s by by. But they have been in luck and have one fitter working as a TA doing all the normal work a fitter does for a lot less dollars. Just a example of a mob that is exploiting the current work environment.

I recently spoke to a member of a forum who applied for a job and the scam was to put you into a training seminar with possible employment after it. The scam seems to be they recruit people for the courses they provided then get compensated by the government for training people for employment.

Universities have been doing this for years... there are far more graduates in journalism, general arts degrees, law degrees etc than there are places for them in the workforce... it's a scandal

There is a 'company' out here in the east of Melbourne, that hire Truck Drivers, they will even upgrade your license for you for free. They promise all kinds of things after you've done a re-fresher course, and deliver nothing!
They are just collecting dollars from the Government!

Bastards. They're all coming out of the woodwork now. Some the rates being offered in my line of work (engineering/drafting) are atrocious - I seriously wouldn't get out of bed for them.

What these people fail to realise is that this drives away a lot of the good people who are able to move into other industries. Then when times improve these people have moved on and there is a shortage of skilled people, which pushes up the rates again.

    Cheers,
    Jon

Yea, same thing happens in my industry, using unliscenced tradespeople to do the majority of the installation at cheaper rates...Governing body doesn't seem to give a rats

This has been going on for many years.
Another problem is when you do find someone good, who wants to become a full timer, you cant get them unless you pay big dollars to the hire Co for reimbursement.
