Hi Wayne,
Is it possible that the head was laid down on a workbench with the injectors still in?. That would have been enough to damage them..
David
Hi my name is Wayne and I'm just new to the forum from Perth WA. I have a 1999 130 TD5 Defender. On a recent trip to Kalgoorlie the trusty plastic head dowels decided to break. After reconditioning the head and restarting the vehicle it now has very little power. I have replaced fuel pump, done the timing, replaced MAF, replaced fuel pressure regulator, turbo hoses, checked all sensors and no errors found on computer diagnostic. The car is sluggish through all gears and will gradually get up to 110kph but will die on any slight incline.
I have run out of ideas and seeking help to fix the problem. Thanks in advance. Please let me know if this should be posted elsewhere.
Cheers

Assuming correct timing and injector cam clearances set correctly, Sounds like a boost problem.
When the head gasket failed was there coolant in the oil? does the turbo spin freely?
Yes mate the injector's were in the head when i took it to get reconditioned.May be the problem there. There was no water in the oil and yes the turbo does turn freely.
Get the injectors checked and replace the fuel filter (if not done already). Good luck!

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
G,day Strangy
The head place removed the injectors but i did put them back with new copper washers and o rings.I did clean off the carbon on them with a wire wheel but have had them checked and was told they are all ok.The head has had 6 thou taken off it and i fitted a 2 hole head gasket the same as the old one.Do you think it could still be the injectors?
Injectors need to go back in exactly the same spot. You cannot mix them up.
Cheers
It will only be the injectors if they were mishandled. i.e damaged by the head being face down on a hard surface.
6 thou is pretty normal for a Td5 skim and the 2 hole gasket should be fine.
Replacing the injectors in different positions will not cause the problems you are experiencing. Though having the correct injector or code for position is desirable. The position of the injectors or correct injector codes relative to ECU saved position is only required for the ECU to trim (fine adjustment) the injectors for smooth running.
Can you confirm the timing was done with pins and not by eye and that the injector clearances were correct?
What does diagnostics tell you the boost pressure is?
Its going in thursday for the e c u to be checked out i will gather that info and let you know.
Cheers mate.
