    Gold Coast Holidays

G'day all, 'She who must be obeyed' has decreed that the tribe is off on a Gold Coast holiday at the end of the school year,(avoiding schoolies!). So it will be load up the Discovery with 6 people and head north from Rochester in Vic. Now the reason for the ramble, 'She who must be obeyed' is having grief finding quality affordable accommodation. Love to kick a goal here, any suggestions for apartments or resorts that may fit the bill will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks all
    Clarkey

Coolangatta or Burleigh are the places if your family like the beach. Surfers and Broadbeach are nightclub areas. Nice enough during the day and early evening, but late at night not so much.

Coolangatta is close to the highway, so travel time to the tourist destinations won't be affected.

Southern end is better for families and cheaper. Maybe an apartment and organise own cooking or eat out. Resorts are dearer.

Get a Three Parks Pass (excludes Dreamworld) to save money.

Aah! give the G/Coast a miss, come up to Bribie Island, bridge from mainland 20klm east of Caboolture just below the Sunshine Coast, Surf beaches(patrolled) and calm beaches (Pumicestone Passage) and full shopping facilities, and close to AULRO central and you should be able to book reasonable priced accommodation.

We stayed at the Grand Florida Resort at Miami which is just south of the GC. It is great for Families and the apartments are huge and fully self contained. All over looking 2 pools. You can get great rates outside of holiday times. The budget hotels we stayed at on the way up there cost the same for just a bed for the night. Worth a look.

We stayed at Crown Towers on the Gold Coast last year. I was forced to go to a theme park on our way back from Cape York. We found (were told about) a privately owned apartment (2BR, 2 Bathroom, Kitchen, Sofa bed in lounge), there were 5 of us, but it should be okay for 6. Let's just say it was cheaper to stay there than get a cabin in a Caravan Park out of town. I'll PM you the owners contact details and you can enquire about availability.

We've stayed at both the San Chelsea and Pacific Place apartments at Coolangatta and found them to be pretty good value. We also had a good stay at a house we rented for a week at Burleigh Waters, a bit dearer than nightly accommodation but we got a nice quiet house close to the middle of the Gold Coast with a pool and spa.
