I did actually use premium back in the day when I owned a small car (focus). I never put E10 in - owners manual said not to. I actually saw a documentary and did some reading on E10, they had tested city and highway driving on the 3 fuel types and found the premium more cost effective. I'm surprised that you have found different but that is ok. Maybe it's a car type/brand thing....

We have done a few trips in my wife's cars (1.8 Pulsar and 2.4 Vitara) over time using Premium and found they appear to run better and give better economy. However on a cents per kilometre basis we found it was much the same value. We also have a ten year old Hi-Lux with the 3 litre turbo engine and the performance and fuel economy drop right off if we use diesel from the el cheapo outlets.

    Cheers, Mick.

the best way I know how to save fuel is to pour it into a clean drum and screw the lid on
tight......hide it in corner of your shed.

Then considering that the engine runs better with the premium IMHO it have to be a better choice.
On the 406 V6 the performance and acceleration is much much better.

Re: hyclones - don't lots of people go to great lengths to REMOVE obstructions from the air intake????????? Yea I know the theory that hyclones make the air form a vortex and yada yada yada.... but has anyone EVER seen ANY difference with them?

Like, no but, butt dynos don't lie?????

I had a bloke get quite angry as I ripped his hiclone from his air intake and threw it in the back of his truck. Told him not to bother coming for another tune if he came back with it upstream of the gas mixer (= vortex generator) again.

Re the octane levels it depends on the injection system. If it can advance the timing it'll usually run better on higher octane.

So hiclone swirls the air to make it run more linear thus less resistance. What happens when it gets to the butterfly or turbo?
I talked to an 80 series driver who had those magnetic things, and the father in law has one on his triton. Both say the motors run a bit smoother, but no noticable difference in economy.

That said, of my last 3 V8's (a chev and an injected 5.0 commodore), my P38 uses the least amount of fuel.
good point my 2005 FPV GT uses more fuel than my 1993 V8 disco the engine in the GT is far more advanced with a lot more technology and is in a lighter car. but in saying that the GT runs a lot cheaper and better on the 98ron but i dont get the same result in the disco on the 98ron fuel i just cant afford the good fuel all the time. at the end of the day V8 and economy dont belong in the same sentence. with diesel costing around the 5c a liter more mark i am not to sure who is better off in the diesel vs V8 economy talk. disco V8 in top tune and a light right foot is not too bad.
