There is only one way, stop feeding them. as you have done.
Soon they will look for new places to get their food requirements.
In his infinite wisdom my FIL (he lives with us) took up feeding the local magpie population and they soon over-ran the place so he stopped feeding them. That was over a month ago and we've still got a heap of them (I counted 37 this arvo) hanging around and leaving their droppings on everything and I mean everything. The neighbours are copping the same and understandably aren't impressed so I'm after a (legal) method of "moving them on". I've got a small dog that doesn't handle loud noise very well so that might limit my options.
Thanks,
Anthony.

Magpies are very territorial, they fight for their patch. I suggest you may have counted more than once. Stop feeding them, Second thoughts, are you sure they are not crows you are talking about? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
Some info, Bob

Maybe they are pied currawongs they sometimes flock together in bigger groups in autumn and winter if food is more scarce
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
They're definitely magpies and there is still a stack of them hanging around but not nearly as many as there were. He stopped feeding them over a month ago so how long do these flaming things hang around?.
Just don't feed any and you should be right soon. Magpies have an amazing memory and can recognise over 30 human faces. If you are mean to them they can remember it for up to 5 or 6 years.
About 5-6 years ago my neighbours (rental) gave a nesting pair a hard time, every time the neighbours stuck their head out the door or went to get the car they were "Bombed" yet we could go out in the yard, do the mowing and no problemswe have currently got a pair of peepers working the yard, they are just starting to get their adult plumage we feed them raw Roo & Beef dog food
