99 disco

G'day all me & the missus went & test drove a 2/99 model td5 disco on saturday. It was stock as they come, no bull or tow bars, nothing. Had 120000 kms. Nice & staight outside, inside the roof lining is coming down a bit & the leathery vinyl stuff around the gear stick & hanbrake were a bit taty. The rear main seal is leaking as well as the front pinion seal, they have told me they will fix these 2 things before we buy(if we buy). They are asking $29 990. I am not fermiliar with disco pricing but I reckon for that sort of money i could get a few more accesories & maybe a bit newer. Any coments appreciated.

Hi

$29k is certainly not unreasonable for a td5 >IF< it has a service history, otherwise i would thinking very hard.

i have been searching high and low for a series 1 [95-98] tdi auto for ages and they are still asking over $30k for some of them in pretty condition even with 160000klms on them, little if anything below $20k, with most being $24k plus.

i have just sourced a 95 tdi auto for $17k with what appears to be a good service history, nice interior and a not so pristine exterior, but i happened to catch it not long after it landed and am hoping that is why it is cheap

i would not be buy any disco without an racq inspection as a minimum. if it has a service history and you know what oil was used at the last service you can get the oil sampled for $25 and that can tell you heaps about the diesel engines condition and tune. http://www.e-monitor.com.au

the roof lining drooping is not unusual, many a disco has that problem and there are some easy fixes depending on the place it is drooping.

hope all goes well .....

Hi,

I bought our 99 TD5 Disco (manual) back in Feb this year for $28 500. It had just over 90k on the clock, snorkel, dual batteries, ARB front bar and a full set (back & front) of LR sheepskin seat covers, but it didn't have all the ACE extra's, (no guard protectors, active cornering, stupid roof bars.) It did have a slightly leaking main seal and needed new rear brake pads, which both were sorted by the Holden? dealer that we bought it from.
So far it's been absalutely fantastic, the only fault is that I don't get to use it as often as i'd like.

I hope I'm of some help.

Oh year, I did have it cheched out by my local landy guru before I signed up.

Cheers.
