I remember as a teenager living on King Island - our backyard was huge. A bit like a small park, with a small stream running through it, bridge over the stream etc. The old man used to mow the "lawn" out back with a tractor and slasher.

We used to see tiger snake heads pop up out of the grass on a regular basis - and the tigers down there are well known for their aggressive nature. The old man used to keep an old .22 rifle just inside the back door, loaded with rat-shot. If any of us spotted a tiger out the kitchen window, we would go out with the .22 and blow it's head off. The remains would then be left hanging on the wire fence out the back, and would disappear over the next day or so - assume the birds took it.

I had that same .22 years later and at one place where we lived, it came in very handy for getting rid of the cats that used to come in and create havoc with the wildlife.
    Cheers .........

I used to regularly visit King Is for work in the mid 70s and get driven around by the local cop. The main thing I can remember was the big black tiger snakes - on the tracks they were everywhere and would stand up and try to attack the Kingswood as we drove past.

    Nasty critters.

Most people who get bitten by a snake get bitten trying to kill the snake.

I love being a do-gooder because we get to play with the governments short and curlies

Who wouldn't want to do that?

It's a real **** you can't get a sarcastic tone from reading. Maybe we should nominate a colour?

Yup, you guys are hero's killing snakes. Wish I was a hero instead of a do-gooder. Then I would have peoples genitals thrust at me all the time....
