Maybe that is the reason that the best (and cheapest) cup of coffee we had in London in 2008 was from a little cafe run by a couple of Australian women.

It was under the Tower Bridge across the water from the Tower of London. However they might no longer run the cafe.

I almost applauded with the rest of the crowd - fantastic.
    Cheers,

Have you tried the British Museum? I think it's free. And have you found a decent coffee shop yet?

Good coffee at Artigiano in Exeter.

I went to the V&A yesterday for a photography exhibition. Couldn't wait to get out. I was thoroughly depressed by the crowds so I didn't look at anything else. Went outside and the queues for the other museums were down the street.

I was really starting to get upset. Seriously. I was really stressed. I couldn't face another trip on the packed Tube so I walked the 4km back to the hotel. That was an experience, the crowds didn't thin until I was past Buckingham Palace but started again near and across Westminster Bridge. Our hotel is at Park Plaza at the end of Westminster Bridge and looks directly up the road and across the bridge. The crowds on the bridge and near the London Eye are massive. I doubt I'll go on the Eye today.

    Even Singapore isn't as bad.

I actually planned to stay in the hotel room today but perhaps I'll go to the Imperial War Museum. It may have fewer visitors.

I went on the Eye at 10am - the crowds were heavy but not like yesterday. But by the time we were off the Eye, the crowds were horrendous.

I walked to the IWM. There very few crowds on the walk but once inside it was packed.

I'm back in the hotel and am not going out again until we leave for Paris tomorrow. All I want to see in Paris is the Eiffel Tower and a museum with Cugnot's 1771 Steam Dray and Bleriot's aeroplane.

I'd have a bottle of wine but a bottle of Jacob's Creek that costs $7 at home, is $40 here (in a shop, not in the hotel which is even more expensive).

Ah, yes. London in the middle of the school summer holidays, about as much fun as having your eyeballs tattooed. One of the many reasons I decided to quit living in London.

I want to go home. I am even more reluctant to go to Paris on Tuesday. I've had enough.
And here I am at home by myself, wishing like hell that I could have someone to help me do some fencing and you are being run over by crowds.

At least I can go to the fridge and grab a stubby to wet the whistle.

It's sad that decent camera can get that heavy, that using a point and shoot has a definite advantage in how you feel at the end of the day.

So reading the first of your postings, your misgivings about travel to the UK could be coming true, Crowds, People, Distance between must see's, Costs and running out of space to place another stroke on the imaginary scoreboard to keep tally of sites and sights seen.
