At least a heap of us can get together and enjoy the fireworks each year. It brings communities together (at home or out) and spreads taxpayers funds across the community. This other nonsense does the opposite.
I hear you about the other imbalance too, but even if only a handful of families were re-housed, re-patriated or processed through Manus it would be a measurable and better use if funds than just making someone feel better about their sex life.
And why on earth do we all want to now have to bear the cost of an extra choice on every form and in every interview or instance where gender data collection is required? To make one (or a handful of) "special(s)" feel better?
Maybe we need to start looking for he real cause of the drama here. Let's get a witch hunt going to flush out all the people in the public service that are constantly satisfying their own vested interests or crazy desire to say "oh you poor dear, let me help you feel better".
This may just be another case of "snouts in the public trough" I reckon.
