Thanks for the well wishing folks
We left our place out in the open and are hunkered down in town with friends.
Shed is as secure as can be.
House is boarded up, boats chained down.
Latest sched has dropped her to a four which is a blessing
We still have power and inet - town has at least three feeds I know of and have heard one is down already.
Will try to keep you landy mob posted

Good to here all is well for you steve. Good luck to everyone up there.
Coincidence time.
Did others here catch the TV episode last night with Ross Noble touring thru outback -- specifically while at Karratha or somesuch (FNWA) in the cyclone zone... he pointed the cameras at the 44gal drums filled with cement that are tied with cables to the 4 cnrs of the caravans, site offices and shipping containers (used as temp houses). I have been to Darwin but didn't see the same 44gal idea used there.
File under 'Australiana' I suppose..
Does'nt seem that long ago I was looking down your way thinking the same thing
Oh we'll it's never a matter of 'if' it has always been a matter of 'WHEN'
Just a bit breezy here at the moment and with any luck it will peter out before it gets here.
BOM has it going through Mareeba as a cat 1 tomorrow so we could have dodged
A bullet but a bit early to count chickens.
Anyway thoughts with the guys in Cooktown and surrounds.
Good luck.

I thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken.
Been prepping the house all afternoon. Not due to hit us till tomorrow, but should have lost some intensity by the time it hits us.
Don't know if I will be heading off for Brisbane on Monday though
Been doubling up my gaffa tape, that should make it good for 200mph gusts right![]()
Rising Sun
I used 6mm ply on our windows held in with teck screws... then this morning I visited a builder mate who drove tiger bolts into corefilled concrete to hold 3/4 ply over his windows...
I have batten down the hatches envy
burn baby burn
ITA can burn right out as far as I am concerned.

What's it like at the minute Steve the footage shows it's starting to ramp up.
windy but not untenable
you gotta realise that 35-40kn winds in Cooktown aint that special
poor old flattery wharf is getting a touch up with gust to high 60s and I dont think you would be wanting to sip on a G&T at the Marlin Bar on Lizard but so far so good...
The money will be in a few hours though when we will be roughly deposited near Musgrave Station.

Hang onto your hat Steve. Might even need a rum or two to weather this one. Stay safe mate. We're all praying for you.
Cheers......Brian
