Hopefully power won't be out for too long. Hummocky must be copping a pizzling atm. I reckon the crabs will be hiding down in their holes tonightHow do you reckon the CC museum will hold up Steve. Would be a shame to lose that.
Thanks Brian,
I may have just tasted a rum - you know just a taste
Gonna keep our heads down and just make sure we are well hydrated
Still have power and net... but much of town is dark already.
The joys of running to a house on the annan/water supply feeder

hard to say
friends in the heart of town (just up from the golden spanner) lost power at 430pm and are getting a sizzling
reckon the museum will have a touch up but flattery is wearing the southern face of the eye at the moment and only gusting to 83kn??? This is good for Hopevale and Cooktown
I will take 83kn any day over 160kn

Too right, would be good if it doesn't get much more than that.

Be careful, as explained by ozcyclone chasers, because the system is a tight 'little' one, the strongest winds may come as the eye crosses the coast. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
The boys and I from work loaded up the trucks and machines, bucked the trend and drove from Townsville to Cairns.
Weather here is fine so far. Little bit of rain, but that is all.
Gotta love being called in on your holidays.
The upside was there was no traffic heading north. Plenty going south.
Will.
Ya poor bastard watch yourself up there.
Well it appears Cooktown and Hopevale may have escaped pretty lightly. Reports so far indicate light damage but I guess that could change with daylight this morning. No reports of injuries so that's a big relief - hope it stays like that. Ita is just sw of Cooktown and moving inland but is still a Cat 2.

Early reports sound promising for minimal damage, and so far no loss of life. It's slow movement over land should mean that it will be significantly downgraded by the time it reaches here. I am amazed how slowly the eye is moving. I expected it to hit here sometime during the night. Still north and inland of me in Clifton Beach. I am sitting here in bed, looking out over the trees, and watching the ocean whitecaps foaming. Life could be much worse!!
Once Ita passes to the south will head back to the SES, and help with the clean up process.
Good luck to those of us still waiting for the storm to front up. Might have some time off work next week to lend a hand to anyone affected by this storm, so drop me a line if you need some assistance.
Cheers,
Ken
Cheers Ken, it looks a bit better than it did late yesterday. Hope Steve is ok, haven't heard from him yet.
