Thumbs up Gracie's going to Broken Hill.

Next week, we will be travelling up to Broken Hill from Melbourne, via Wycheproof, & Mildura.
We've never been there before, We're into historical stuff, but also good food & wine, so does anyone have any suggestions in this regard? We've got about 6 days up there.

While you are in BH find yourself a McLeods pastie, not other brand though.

Have it hot , with copious tomato sauce.

No wineries in BH though , a drive out to Silverton for a beer at the pub may help.

Continue on from Silverton through the Grapevine Hills and have a look at Mundi Mindi plains.

You might see Umberumberka full and overflowing , something I rarely saw when I grew up there.

Can't recommend a good restaurant though , haven't stayed in recent years.

Mildura is good for wine and food though.

Keep a lookout for roos out that way , I saw bloody heaps the other night.

    Question

    Thanks mate.
I'm looking forward to the "historical" nature of the place.
We should only be on the road from say 8.00am until 4.00pm, so hoping the roos won't be so much of an issue during those hours?

Yes you will! Dont be lulled into a false sense of security by daylight as although you'll generally see less theyre still out there.

    Be safe and have fun!

Broken Hill has a railway museum at Sulphide Street Station, I reckon its pretty good.
I haven't been to the Line of Lode museum but heard its pretty good.

Silverton has a great museum, but the entire town is a living museum anyway. I remember drinking VB long necks in the creek with some of the locals one night...recounting historic tales of the week before and other tall stories but that won't be as easy to organise...

If your into the historical stuff try a visit to.. Home Page
It's not to far out of the way with the turn off near Big Lizzie - Red Cliffs & District Historical Society Inc.
Also Victoria's most outback pub is only a village too.

I'll be in Silverton staying at Premrose Park for a couple of days from Sunday 27th.
We may see you up there.
    Cheers, Kyle

    Thumbs up

Just got back from Broken Hill.
Gracie travelled 2100ks,...behaved perfectly, averaged about 10.8l/100k or around 26mpg. Lovely driving,...except all the way back from Wycheproof today, it rained all the way!
Loved Broken Hill,...... Pro Hart Gallery, Living Desert Sculptures, various mines, Silverton, Sulphide St train Museum, Pubs, Argent St. etc etc. Didn't see any Defenders on the road, but saw a few in Broken Hill, but missed one in Broken Hill while driving (so couldn't wave!)..so, sorry if ya're on here!
Just have to say what a great vehicle is a Defender for travelling relatively long distances...sits on 110ks no problems,...a great place to be!
    Cheers, Pickles.
