How to Rego Brisbane Perentie in NSW?

I'm just a bit confused on the process for this. It seems like I need a rego to get a green slip and a Blue slip and a green slip to get a rego, but I need a rego and a CTP to get an unregistered vehicle permit (UVP) to drive the vehicle to have it inspected.

Any thoughts on how to break the vicious cycle would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get a UVP, drive it back to my home town and have the blue slip inspection done here. I'm new to NSW and it's quite different to the simplicity of Victoria.

Unfortunately all the rego places are closed until Tuesday which is when I am hoping to pick up the vehicle in Brisbane and drive it back to Northern NSW so I can't get any help from them at the moment.

    Cheers,
    Neo

    get an UVP in Brisbane

    Hi,
my experience in bringing unreg vehicles into NSW --must say mainly from Vic was that you get a permit from where it is and say how long to drive back to your home in NSW by most direct route--then pay the fee and away you go--it is only bit over $30 from Vic--don't know re Qld-- do not try to get one issued by NSW as it will cost hundreds , they need inspections etc--Vic does not even want to see the vehicle so hope Qld similar.
Once here you get blue then green then rego.

You have to get the UVP from the state that the journey commences. In Queensland you declare the car roadworthy, hand over the bucks and away you go. Where in Brisbane is it?

You're also likely to get hit with an additional vehicle inspection. Any time you move a vehicle into NSW they have this crazy inspection thing they can randomly whack on you. You have to take the vehicle to one of their inspection stations and it takes a few hours.

Something to do with anti-rebirthing. We gone done with it a few years back, was
A giant pain in the arse.

    G'day Neo,
I bought my Perentie 110 at the Brisbane auctions last month. I bought an unregistered vehicle permit online, so no worries with public holidays, duration is a maximum 7 days by memory and you pay a different amount for different length permits, from the Queensland roads authority, which gave me permission to drive it in both QLD and all other states along my journey. I had to state where my journey was starting and ending mind you, so couldn't legally deviate too far off course. I also purchased comprehensive insurance in case of an accident-I didn't want to lose my car in the frst few days! The unreg vehicle permit covers your CTP insurance for the duration.
After the permit ran out I then wanted to register it in NSW. This required a blue slip inspection, CTP/green slip insurance, and then paying for plates and registration. All was easily enough done, though I have heard some rego stations get a bit stroppy at ex-army Landies because they don't know what they are looking at and hence want to cover their arses.
Any questions on the process please ask!

I would suggest that the info that "isuzutoo-eh" gave you is on the money, the closest Dept Transport Qld inspection station and rego/permit centre would be Zillmere,69 Pineapple St Zillmere (Brisbane suburb)UBD map 120/A/1 Phone 13 23 80b fax (07)3839 0673 8.30am--4.30pm Mon--Fri.

Hope that is of help to you, you maybe able get the info faxed to you on Tuesday.

    cheers

For details on getting the Qld UVP, see the Qld Gov't site:

    https://www.qld.gov.au/transport/buy...uvp/index.html

You can order the permit and CTP online (and over the long weekend), print it out yourself and there is no need to attend any inspection office in person. You will need to nominate the VIN for the vehicle (which you would have from GraysOnline), the destination for the trip, and the duration of the journey.

Once you have the permit, it will cover the vehicle for your journey. Strangely, while the Qld UVPs are easier to get (without requiring a roadworthy first), they are also the most expensive being calculated on a daily rate of $28.75 + CTP.

If you were lucky enough to be starting your trip in NSW, a NSW UVP is a flat $21 (+cheaper CTP) for a journey of up to 28 days!

Once you are home in NSW, you do not need a permit to move an unregistered vehicle for the purposes of:
    A: getting a vehicle inspection,
B: taking it to a repairer, or
    C: getting it registered.

Your blue slip inspection will cost approx. $50-$70 depending on the provider. You can assist the process GREATLY by taking as much technical info with you on the Perentie as possible, such as the Data Summary (Att below) and a weighbridge cert beforehand, just in case. It is wise to have all the info you need on hand, than be caught out by "Sorry mate, can't do it because..." Better to be Forearmed than Three-Legged!

Thanks everyone for the detailed responses! I hadn't picked up on the possibility of getting the QLD UVP, which sounds easier than getting the NSW one.

I'll get all this arranged online, now that you guys have sorted out the process for me.

If I get stuck, I'm sure I'll be back here.

    Thanks again!

My question is now moot, I didn't know we could get UVPs online. QT has joined the 21st centary, whatever next?
