Drove to St ives yesterday , 2 hr drive nearly hit 3 times in the wifes Multivan, same length and almost same height as my 110 wagon so it's not invisible. First 2 M/F where texting and the third forgot that she had to steer around a bend whilst lighting her smoke!
The other issue is respect being taught by the elders/ leaders. Go have a read of the fine print in the pension raised to 70 plan. ;)
Its not aimed at the baby boomers who are the ones making the laws, rather its timed so it hits Generation X(1970 ) onwards so all the pollies kids and grandkids have to work longer, myself included. Go and compare what the bommer V next few generations got in terms of benefits and costs, along with opportunities and you will see that baby boomers got a golden ticket which they burnt and handed the ashes to the next generations to clean up.
Boomers; lots of jobs/trades/apprenticeships when 16 or 18 and free university if you wanted.
Gen x on , youth unemployment from 20-35%(more in some areas),Howard slashed any incentive to train apprentices so vacant training shops for a decade, university no longer free; HEC's was introduced for them and has only gone up. 457 visa imports taking locals jobs at cut rates or longer hours.
Boomers, land cost 6-12 months wages in Sydney burbs when they where in their 20's services where connected with a plan to recoup costs over time.
Gen X on, my first block in dapto was 2x avg yearly wage now the same block is more like five times. Services and other rates are now charged up front per block so the govt is making profit from day one.
Roads and tolls.
Welfare : Boomers got the dole with no real push to work for the dole and the pension was a bit higher in terms of cost of living.
Today work for the dole, and boomers have for a long time not kept their parents pension up with cost of living, by their policies from both sides, and are now that they are old enough to get the pension screaming about it!;)
What would you think of a 3rd gen farmer who took it easy for 40 years and said to the next generation/s you need to work 10% more each day to get the farm back to the level your grandpa left it to me?
Maybe that's where the level of respect comes from?
