    Avaaz.org

    Hi Guys,

I've been getting inundated with emails from these clowns for a fair while now and regardless of how many times I've blocked their emails, they keep coming.

I love the irony of the fact that they are all about saving every element of the world including people's rights and freedom of speech, yet seem to have no qualms about creating a internet construct that overrides recipients wishes to not receive the emails.

I have not contacted them directly as I'm concerned that that then identifies and validates my email details.

Anybody else had experience with this and how do you stop it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

You could probably start with this.

How can I unsubscribe? To unsubscribe from Avaaz emails send a blank email to unsubscribe@avaaz.org.

Then a cease and desist from here if that doesnt work.

Cease & Desist Letter Templates, Examples & Sample Forms

Then approach your net provider for spam filtering (probably cost you) a couple of dollars a month,

    or change email,

or depending what modem router you have mine has inwards and outwards exceptions in the firewall and block them from their.

    Hi Dazza,

    Thanks for this.

As I said, I'm a little reticent to validate my email by contacting them but I figured I'm already getting the emails so what the hey.

I went to their website and sent a blank email to them, a couple of days ago ... and .... of course more turned up today.

I've just fired off about a half dozen unsubscribe emails and will give them a week and then progress on if needs be.

There is no way I'm changing my email address or paying to block them ... there has to be another way.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

AVAAZ do some very good work. I dont respond to all their campaigns but like to hear about them.

Although they (any many like them) are now much more active and "noisy" so are in danger of turning people away.

You must have signed some sort of petition to get more emails from them.

    Hey mate,

They are quoting that in 2011 I signed something. I used to work in the Brisbane CBD where there were lots of people trying to get petitions signed etc.

I buy the Big Issue, give to many charities, etc so I may have signed something that needed a voice but it would have been nothing more than an extra name on a page with an email for validation purposes (my thoughts after the convo with the rep). I would have assumed it was a paperwork exercise only. I can guarantee that if there was a level of disclosure that described this outcome (as in your information collated on a db and then used to inundate you), they would have got no signature or any details from me. I find this very disingenuous for the 'Saviours Of The World'.

These 'Causes' got so out of control in the city, effectively hassling people on every corner that I stopped even talking to them. I still buy the Big Issue but now have pre-nominated charities.

Interestingly, I only started getting Avaaz emails a year or so ago and the frequency has just increased. So it's taken them a while to 'decide' that they should use my info to convince me to follow other causes.

Don't get me wrong, as I've tried to describe, there needs to be a form of arbitration in many areas but when the 'Crusader' decides that they want to tell me something so badly that it over-rides my blocking settings (an indication of my freedom of choice), well they have lost the plot and are no better than those they are haranguing. Sure they aren't killing anybody but the basic principle is the same.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Fair enough. Fully understand. I work in the city and its a real obstacle course getting around all the do-gooder evangelists, when you are just out to get a bite to eat.
