TDI 300 slow to respond at low revs...

Just deciding upon a TDI 300 mnual or auto Disco, test drove a manual on weekend .
With the bonnet up I manually revved the engine and noticed a lag of close to a second (maybe even a second) before the engine responded...

I seem to remember my tdi defender being more responsive....

    Thanks

there should not be a second of lag just reving the engine, be it petrol or diesel.

responce should be almost immediate with no load on the engine, unless the idle rev setting is to low or fuel setting is excessively rich and then there should be a tell tale cloud of black smoke.

loaded is another story, especially under 1800 revs... which is why the auto is the most driveable combination IMHO

How is the tension on the throttle cable? Could be that it is a bit slack.

    Go the auto...
The auto Tdi's were pep'd up to about 300Nm (compared to man 265). The auto's torque converter limits the turbo lag to min as it's on boost nearly all the time. This make's it significantly faster off the mark. The auto is also arguably better offroad in all respects except downhill braking.
