    NQ Galah Deaths a Mystery

Queensland Parks and Wildlife officers are investigating the death of hundreds of galahs in a far north Queensland town.

Hundreds of galahs have been found dead in backyards and on the streets of Chillagoe, west of Cairns.

Residents in the far north Queensland town began reporting the dead birds late last night.

Local wildlife carer and resident, Gary Bonderson, says garbage bags full of the dead birds have been taken to the local rubbish dump.

Mr Bonderson says he has collected a dozen birds that are still alive and is monitoring their condition.

"They're pretty doey, they don't want to fly, you can pick them up, and that's not normal for a galah, they'll normally turn around and bite you.

"They're just sort of standing in a bit of a daze [and] just before they die they seem to fit," he said.

Nice bit of reporting and faithful rendition of the vernacular: "doey"

Now while I hate to see any animal suffer or die needlesly, if it is anything like some parts of WA then a few less isnt such a bad thing.

Over here they can strip a crop in two day's, have also been known to move into towns and strip anything green, trees, lawns, anything.
There are two types of people in this world, good and bad. The good sleep better, but the bad seem to enjoy the waking hours

Was watching the DVD last night. Also saw Phillip Glass and his ensemble playing the music live at the Sydney Opera House with the film projected.

Spectacular filmmaking and I like Glass's music. Also recommend his music played by Uakti on Aguas da Amazonia:

    Not to everyones taste though.

    Hi People
Wouldnt mind betting somebody has poisoned them.I know of an un-named person who had a great garden which he was very proud of.Come garbage day the crows(feathered ones, not them footy players) would get the lids open on the wheelie bins in the street and pull the contents out looking for a feed.So he would end up with his rubbish all over his garden, plus his neighbors as the wind shifted it around. He devised a plan to give these crows a nice meal of mince on a plate inside a bin,the result was over 50 dead crows, and no further rubbish problem.
Galahs are a problem,so are many others(ie correllas)but I wouldnt condone poison,we actually have 8 pet galahs. These birds are worth thousands of $$$$ around the world, legal traping and sale could be an answer to the problem.
