    History of U-boats in WW2

Posted this in another thread, it is such a good story on so many levels, the American involvement in WW2 before 1941, how the German enigma machines secrets were really discovered, and much more, a long watch, but a good one for those interested, Bob

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    Hi Bob,

I watched this the other night.

What I found amazing, other than the Pig-Headedness of the American Military Commander who let U-Boats run wild, uncontested up and down the American coast .... actually I don't find that too hard to believe at all .... I was amazed that this (U-Boats that close to the US shoreline) actually happened. I could not believe the amount of shipping that got sunk by U-Boats within stone throwing distance of the US. It's so-under reported. And when I say "Stone Throwing" ... it is only a very slight exaggeration for effect. They (U-Boat Crews) could clearly see and identify well lit and obvious points along the US Coastline .... Coney Island for example and this helped them target the ships they were attacking.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Having read several autobiographies covering naval/maritime operations in that era, i found it concerning that the u-boat crews felt more or less safe once they were out of range of regular air and sea patrols on the eastern side of the atlantic....
