overlander forum is trying to get as many members as possible at cameron's corner on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of july 2005. would it be unsporting of us to do the same thing at the same place but a few days earlier and take all the camping spots? given the high regard most of them have for landy's, i don't think they'd mind.
BTW, i've put my name down to be there, don't know if it will happen, but i'll try (that's the O/L one, not my cruel suggestion)![]()

(At the risk of sounding ignorant - where's that ?)

Found this little description doing a search on Camerons corner.
Camerons corner was named after surveyor John Cameron who plotted the corner of the 3 states in 1880 in the days when a chain was a chain of 22 metres carried through the scrub from point to point to measure the distance. Remarkably, the corner was remeasured in 1969 and Camerons point was found to be less than a metre out.
Camerons Corner is in the far north west of New South Wales and is surrounded by the Sturt National Park, named after the explorer who set up camp there in 1845 on his expeditions to discover the giant inland sea which was suspected to exist.
Sturt camped at Depot Glen for 6 months beside Pinaroo Lake and built a fort (Fort Grey) to protect his supplies from pilfering aboriginals. The site is now a camping area and you can visit a tree blazed by Sturt after a 7km. walk.
The road to Cameron Corner leaves the Silver City Hwy from Broken Hill around 2km. south of Tibooburra and goes north-west of the Sturt National Park. It is possible to get a caravan through with care, and you can camp around the Corner Store.
If you prefer, here are 2 pubs in Tibooburra 140km. away, the Family Hotel and, across the road, the Tibooburra Hotel. In the 1960's the late artist Clifton Pugh took a liking to Tibooburra and painted murals on the walls.in return fro free beers. Later, when he gained wealth and fame he bought the place. There is also an information centre for the park in Tibooburra and the original corner peg is on display. There is now a cylindrical concrete corner post and the fence line joins so it is easy to recognise the states.
Here you will also encounter the 'Dingo Fence' stretching 6000 km. from the Great Dividing Range in QLD to a point on the Great Australian Bight near Ceduna in western South Australia. Designed to keep dingos out of sheep country, it works remarkably well although the maintenance costs are heavy.
The Sturt National Park extends around 80km east and 30 south of Camerons Corner.
In 1990 a store was opened to cater for an increasing amount of visitors to the marker. The store was shipped intact from South Australia and Camerons Corner now has an official population of 2.
I managed to get to Poepels Corner last year, and might try and crash this one next year all going well.

How about a Melbourne people get together !!!
That would be good, this time next year and I should be able to attend. Am trying to get over to Tassie around August/ September next year. Living in WA we never get to see snow so am keen to see Tassie and the white stuff at the same time.
With enough time others should be able to arrange to meet up as well. Would be nice to put faces to the names.
Well i'm in tas and reasonably close to some of the white stuff so if anybody comes down my way drop me a line

Ah , Phoenix you've finally picked up on my subtle hints.
It would be good to catch up with you and get some local knowledge on what to look at and where to go.
All going well you might be able to show us some of your favorite tracks.
