Yep agree. Insurance. My employer had a big payout several years ago when a bloke fell off a ladder and broke his neck, so it has been fussy ever since. Fine with me.It's funny really. You get sights, especially building sights where OH&S is way over the top. Then you get other sights which have the potential to be extremely dangerous, such as Oil Terminals or Chemical Plants and they Get it pretty much right, most of the time. Where I work, I am the Safety Delicate, but every one there knows that each of us is very much responsible for his own safety and the safety of others. The potential for serious injury is ever present so nobody runs around with clip boards or rule books annoying everybody and making the issue of Safety a joke. (Except for the manager for the mob next door. Who is a PTA, who is always having to cover his arse). As a consequence we have very few incidences, and when there is an obvious concern I take it to the Management and it is quietly and effectively sorted.
So for me at least, there is nothing ridiculous about OH&S, only some of the people who are tasked, or think they are tasked with it, but really have NFI.
I seriously doubt that any of the truly ridiculous stuff comes from any Socialist agenda. Rather, I suspect, it comes from Insurance companies and over zealous junior managers.
