    Dealer extra's

I got a quote from the LR Dealer
    880 Tinting
    1000 Underbody protection

    1600 combined deal.

Now if i was convinced this was a superlative product, and value for money, i would order it tomorrow, but ..........

thoughts, experience or an alternative north side Brisbane

whats a fair price for a superior product on the street

800 for dealer tinting is about 400 overpriced compared to "street" pricing. I paid 600 (down from their initial request of $1200) because CBF getting it done separately.

Every addon they offer you is a BS with the exception of tinting, and thats only worth 400.

Would you like fries with that ?

Any and every aftermarket 'option' offered by the dealer is an absolute rip off. If you want a 16 yo high school dropout with minimal training messing with your vehicle and to be charged premium rates for the 'service' go right ahead.

Sorry if I sound a bit harsh but this is how it works. New car price is competitive so you get stitched big time on the 'extras', underbody protection, tinting, interior and exterior 'protection' are the greatest cons of all time (from the dealer). If you really want/need these go to the pro's and get it done properly at a fraction of the dealer price.

To be fair it isn't just car dealers that do this, electrical retailers like Harvey Norman give you a competitive price on the big screen TV but for the HDMI cables 'to get the best out of your new system', want $100+ for the latest 'oxygen free', 'gold plated' leads and people actually pay it. It's an absolute load of bull**** but the retailers make a fortune, $10 cables from eBay work just as well.

    $300-400 for a good tint on a D4.
I don't think underbody protection, rust proofing etc does anything apart from improve the dealers margin.
LMFAO when dealer sent me to their Ming Mole to add extras to a 6 yo 2nd hand car for my daughter.

If you don't know what a Ming Mole is.......google it.
    Similar to the Wynns Wench.

The other trap is that my understanding is that if your car exceeds the luxury tax threshold the accessories are also taxed. Another reason to go aftermarket.

Bought a new merc the other day.

They wanted $2195 for tinting and paint protection.

No thanks, just the car thanks.

They rang back about three times trying to sell the tinting and paint protection.

    Regards
    Andrew

    Exactly.

If you enjoy giving more money than you must to the guvmint - buy it with heaps of accessories.

Otherwise, buy it bare and pay the minimum LCT - then add the accessories afterwards (whether through the dealer or after market).

I paid $400 for tinting on mine - the day after I bought it - just up the road from the dealers. I also bought genuine accessories (mud flaps, luggage space floor mat, weather shields, bonnet protector) from the dealer - the day after I bought the vehicle. Didn't pay the LCT on any of it.

All of the above were fitted to the vehicle when I took delivery.
    Cheers .........
