    Short Term Comprehensive Insurance

Does anyone know any insurance companies that offer short term comprehensive insurance for vehicles that are not normally on the road. The ones I have checked only offer a min of12 months but you can take out the insurance and cancel but that incurs substantial admin fees.

Shannons and TCIS are the same.

    Thanks

I've added/removed cars from my shanons policy several times and never paid admin fees. I pay monthly, add a car ... monthly amount changes... remove a car, monthly amount changes...

I'm in Victoria with the 3rd party injury component is a part of your registration though.

Rather dissapointed with Shannons - claim to be all about the enthusiast, but when I called up and said I just wanted third party for the rangie classic for 3 months they refused, and said nothing less than 12 months.

after a few phone calls to places like SGIC, Lloyds, Rhino etc, I ended up with AAMI. Not the cheapest insurance for me, but they are happy to ensure it just for a day if I want and dont charge fee's etc.

Shannons will only do it once per year. Already been through this with them on another vehicle recently when I changed it from full comprehensive to laid up and they were not real happy then but did it - said they would change it back when required but would have to be a 12 month policy.

I've never found that. You must actually tell them what's going on. I just ring up "Please add xxxx to my policy". Then ring up later on "Please remove xxxx frm my policy". It's none of there business how long I envision keeping a car insured for.

I'm a big Shannons fan. They always answer the phone, the speak my lingo, I've had a claim in the past where someone backed into me "Just take it anywhere you want to be fixed". Never saw a bill, never even sited a bit of paperwork. Couldn't be more happy with them.

We were broken in a few years back, Shannons house/contents. They were lsow, but paid up fine (slow was understandable, it was at the same time as all the floods up north).

I tried to ring around and get quotes for my wifes poogoe when we got it ... I spent quite a bit of time listening to hold music. Then would get some bloody indian that I couldn't understand ... No bugger it all ... type in " C I T R O E N" ................... damn it all, transfer me back to australia .... "C for cat" ... " I for " .............. bugger this, slam the phone down... " Welcome to shanons" .... "Yeah sure mate, you want to insure a Citroen ... no worries, what year is she?" .....

They aren't competitive for modern cars, but bugger it, even $100 a more a year is worth it not to deal with bloody phone queues and bloody indian call centers that I can't understand.

    Hi Garry

Call back to Shannon and see if they'll transfer you to a multi-vehicle policy.

Shane about call centres. My Aussie neice works in a Telstra call centre in Wollongong, This site is the multilingual centre for all of Telstra so they have many multilingual Aussies working in Wollongong, when they are not taking calls in their first language they take regular calls. My neice reports that many of the multilingual staff get abused by callers demanding to be transferred back to Australia.

What you hear is not always what you assume. Yes Telstra does have call centres in the Philippines and other countries too.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I've got nothing against indian call centers, I work with a bunch of indians, the company I work for has call centers and data entry in india. It really ****s me no end to be transfered over there to staff that I simply cannot understand... I never abuse the call center staff. I simply say "bye" and try someone else if I can't understand a bloody word they say.

If the insurance company is happy to hire staff that are un-inteligable ... and are usually absolutely clueless about the product there supposed to be selling (other than prompts on the screen). They also obviously don't want my business. If I can't get a simple quote without waiting > 25minutes in a phone queue, then dealing with someone that can't even understand a cars name and type. How in the hell could you deal with them if you actually had a claim that needed resolving

I did try GIO a few years back. "guaranteed the phone will be answered by an australian". "Hello, welcome to GIO, please hold ........... bang straight into a phone queue in india.... wait 5minutes .... ring back, same deal.... wait another 10minutes" .............. BUGGER THIS Ring back, "DON'T BLOODY TRANSFER ME" .... franic aussie women says "sorry sir, how can I help".... "I just want an insurance quote, it'll take 30seconds" ...... "I'm sorry, I just answer a phone to say "hello" I can't access any system, you'll have to go into the phone queue in india" ................. Yep, like the adverts say "GUARANTEED TO BE ANSWERED BY AN AUSTRALIAN" To GIO... "Thank you for your time" ..... hang up.... dial again " Hello Shannons, I'd like a quote please" .... "No worries mate, what is it for this time ?".

It is already on a Shannons multi-vehicle policy with four other vehicles so they know my circumstances with respect to the vehicles.

I guess I will just take out the full policy and cancel it afterwards and if they complain I will offer top take the insurance on my four vehicles elsewhere.

The only reason that Shannons seem to be cheap is that they have low risk exposure to the classic vehicle insurance market. With normal vehicles Shannons are not competitive at all - in fact quite expensive.

In the past my vehicles were insured by Dawes and then Virgil and they were far cheaper than Shannons but I believe they were swallowed up by Shannons to reduce competition. A bit like Bunnings in the hardware sector.

However I believe Shannons are value in the classic sector but they are not quite as helpful as their marketing blurb would indicate.

I have had no joy with Shannon's on price or service for either new or old vehicles. I have done better with an insurance broker. Some other companies offer classic vehicle policies which are cheaper and more comprehensive than Shannon's.

But the crunch is .... What are they like too claim against ........ How do they handle cars that are personal imports and don't exist on there computer systems

I'm sure there's better out prices if you hunt around.... But will they cough up without you jumping through hundreds of hoops, and chasing them through indian call centers for months on end...... And can you keep the car in the event they want to write it off etc...etc...
