I know the meaning of the word minimum. This did not answer my question, which was, what happens if you go less than the minimum.

Well I tell you if I go into a servo and only buy $1.50's worth, I don't care what the minimum is, they are only going to get $1.50.
If the minimum is $2.00 what are they going to do, call the police for 50 cents?
I had to eat humble pie over that one !!
Bought a 20 litre & 2x5 litre Willow Jerry cans & put 36 litres in them at the local Safeway before Easter. I had a go at the operator & he said the plastic ones often take 23 or more litres. I said BS & went home & came back with my trusty 1958 ex army steel jerry can that I inscribed 20.6 litres near the filler & promptly put 21 litres in it.. I had to say sorry about the carry on, but the labels said 20 & 5 for the plastic ones..
The fuel can still expand even if the container is full, resulting in warped or cracked containers, I believe.
Re minimum fill.
I recently and foolishly left my chainsaw fuel at home. So down to the servo, where I actually found out that the fuel capacity of a stihl026 is 600mL!
Handed over the 70 cents, with no drama...... Even though the bowser said minimum delivery 2L.
