    Off the Grid, a possibility

In 5 years it could be cheaper to get off the grid entirely

It would be interesting if governments and "their friends" will allow it.
What would be next, a tax on the solar energy?

There is a little village , Strezlecke? ,in the Brisbane Ranges VIC., that is not on

the grid. I reckon it's an old gold mining area, really looks like series 1. 11 ,country

Yes Chucaro, you might be onto something there mate,

tax the air we breathe and the sunshine that can provide free energy, and any rainwater we happen to collect, and then licence everything you own - sounds about right for the politician mob

Of course if you can reduce your energy needs, the hardware costs and energy storage required drop substantially.

Storing electricity in batteries is the least efficient way to use it. Offsetting your current large loads (i.e. water heating then air heating) is the most efficient.

I worked with a fellow who had a house in Hepburn Springs. That was solar power, not on the grid. There's a fellow on this forum in SA who is not connected to the grid. it's more common than you may think.

Government may be concerned already, about renewable energy reducing the profit of traditional sources. Bob

That as soon as it becomes

    Economical our Government

Will place a tax on it to bring

    The price up to uneconomical

Yes, there will be tax on the sun rays, on the rain water that hit our roofs, and perhaps on the cubic meters of air in our homes and commercial buildings.
I know few countries that they tax business for the cubic air on their buildings as the "Rate of Controller of Environmental Health"

When this happens they will make you pay just for the infrastructure being available, a lot like they do with sewerage and water now, regardless if you hook up or use it.
As it is the utilities power providers now want us that have grid connected powers systems to pay higher supply and connect fees.

Well we already effectively get taxed for rainfall in South Australia.
