Plenty of people give me heaps about my series. That is until they come off road with me and see what they were made for.

I agree with everyone about how old cars give u feedback and new cars are trying to drive for you. No wonder there are so many accidents.

I am not sure if my series (currently under rebuild) will ever see off road/ gravel road/ dirt road.

My personal liking is with the simplicity of series vehicles. They don't look as intimidating&powerful as modern vehicle, yet they can still outperform them in more than one way. Plus added bonus of not being overly covered with electronics and plastic.

When I want to simply go from point A to point B, I drive a modern vehicle, air conditioned, power steering, comfortable seating etc etc,. When I want to go for a drive and actually have control over the machine, to be able to choose the gear, where and when to brake, and what line to pick, when I want a machine to do what I want it to do, when I get sick and tired of answering to mechanical devices and electronic signals, and when I want to experience the self satisfaction that becomes apparent when all the above comes together, then I drive a series vehicle.
Let's face it, there have been no significant improvements in the principles of basic 4 wheel drive in the last 50 odd years, simply labour saving devices. My series vehicle will still go where a modern one will, perhaps though not as fast.
What are we doing with all this perceived saved labour?
I still get great satisfaction out of driving an old vehicle, being able to go up and down the gearbox and transfer case noiselessly without a clutch, relying on torque rather than revs to start off, being able to hear my engine and know exactly what it is doing,.... but....... that is great for recreation, I don't necessarily want to do it all the time.

Anyhoo . . . I completely agree here. Years ago I was driving a new ute, so I opened the shed door, started it up, and it dinged because I didn't have my seatbelt on while we were moving out of the shed. Then I hopped out but left it running while I closed the shed door, so it dinged again. Then I drove up to the end of the driveway to check the post and dinged at me again, finally dinging while I left it running with a door open and dared to walk over to the postbox. Then I pushed the windscreen washer button and that made the wipers scraaaape across the windscreen before the water hit it. I hadn't even made it to the road and I was ready to take an axe to the bloody thing.
