I have a question for the engineer mob among us though.

The custom landie runs a Rover V8 with "cross bolted main bearings".

Can somebody explain this to me please?

Im pretty sure it just runs a 4 bolt 4.6.

    Two vertical and 2 horizontal.

Able to rev it harder without loosing the bearings

Rovers sound good at 6500rpm 8O

Having read Roothy's comments on why the RR was ruled out of the 4WD of the Year results makes it even more obvious the man's comments are often worthless. Why discount it from the running? Because the Queen has one. How bloody stupid. If he'd said it's too complex or something maybe that would be a valid comment.

Well, Roothy is, by his own admission, a died in the wool tojo man. I just can't understand why he keeps attacking his tojo with a gas axe and trying to make it look like a LR!!

I had to laugh when the doors on the bloody thing wouldn't stay shut on the run up the cape because he chopped too much of the back end! Serve him right!

Roothy has mentioned more than once that he had a landie himself some time in his past, but he doesnt talk about it a lot.

They couldn't seriously have put the rangie out because the queen drives one! It's still the best luxury 4*4 on the market. They say the toureg comes close, but apparently it's not too strong underneath.
    The X5, Please!
Maybe the Lexus could be in the running, but still not as good as the rangie.

Oh, I agree. But it's the fact that he states it. Why not state his real reasons? Have you ever noticed he's always slagging off at Landys?

Another one who used to be involved in 4WDOTY testing was Fred Black who is also an avid hater of LR.

Still, the poster of the L322 is good.

To miss 4wdoty by a score of only .2, when the judges are so anti-landy and so pro-nissan shows just what a great rig the rangie is.

    Good point.

But no matter how they feel personally I would like to think they give an honest score for EVERY unit.

I really would like to think it

They're all bitching over at 4wd monthly that the L/C wasn't even in it.

    BB's comment:

A scoring system should and usually be devised to filter out bias otherwise the whole process and the outcome has no credibility.

    Disco95's comment:

There was no LC at the Sydney Motor Show...curious. Conspicuous in its absence.
