I wonder, how long has he been here and how much training to Australian Police standards he has had.![]()
Yesterday I had to take a friend to Pedroville. On the way I was pulled over for a random breath test. I stopped off the road about six feet behind the cop car and the centre of my car in line with the right side of theirs. One chap was checking my licence etc., at my driver's door whilst his colleague assembled the test device on the boot of his car. The fellow with the breathaliser then took a couple of steps to the passenger side of my car then turned and came to my door. As I prepared to do the blow bit I mentioned that I thought he was going test my friend, he replied in a northern European accent that he was more familiar with left hand drive. That cracked me up, it took a moment for me to compose myself so I could comply.![]()

I'm sure he was well trained Jim, just old habits.

How 'North' was his accent ?
Norway: 0.02%.[30] Punishment depends on the alcohol level. 0.02% (fine, but one may also risk a suspended licence if any aggravated circumstances are present.), 0.05% (fine, suspended sentence and suspended license), 0.10% (fine, suspended or mandatory sentence and suspended license), 0.15% (fine, mandatory sentence and suspended license). The guidelines state that the fine for an alcohol level of more than 0.05% should be around 1.5 months base salary and usually not lower than 10.000 NOK. For 0.02-0.05% the fine is lower. Prison sentences are usually around 3 weeks to 3 months with a maximum of 1 year. The suspension period varies from less than a year to 2 years
- That would be around $5,000 for the average worker.. and anything from $10k to $???k for a manager/top earner..
Or it could be worse if he was Polish...
Poland: 0.02% (driving license banned from six months up to three years, prison up to one month), 0.05% (driving license banned from 1 year to 10 years, prison up to two years).[30] Limits and penalties for riding the bicycles were same as for motorized vehicles to December 2013. Almost half of people imprisoned for drunk driving were riding bicycles

A large % of the Coppers up in Kalgoorlie (Wild-West Mining Town) are Poms. - they find it easy going with the gentle nature of our villains...![]()
I was guessing Denmark/Germany.

If you saw what comes out of the WA academy and straight into traffic you may have second thoughts about the standard of training.
Having worked next door to there for 10 years and seen first hand the type that get to drive high speed vehicles and bikes with the authority to hand out tickets to other drivers, I don't believe the bull about training.
As a member of their Internal Affairs section said to me about traffic, "We call them jelly beans, pretty outside, nothing inside"!
A mates son went straight into traffic after training, as 90% of recruits want to, and reckoned most of the senior cops who were supposed to be out with him for further training were too lazy too leave the office.......
I've got lots of respect for GD cops, not much for traffic especially their attitude to "discretionary offences" which is any breaking of rules other than speeding.
And that comes straight from the commissioners own mouth when he was recently talking about their attitude to drivers using phones.

I got a ticket for 'not keeping left unless overtakling' (not in a land rover).
I always said to myself I'd never be one of those drivers to hold up traffic and generally be a pest.
But in this instance it was during double demerits, at dusk in a high wildlife activity area, on a dual carriageway with no other cars being held up behind me.
Apparently keeping a buffer zone between the corpse littered scrub on the side of the road and my vehicle was not a valid excuse. State debt recovery office thought it was though, fine and demerits rescinded.
Not going to slander the intelligence of our boys in blue, but half the battle is interpreting the law in context of an individual situation. In the end of the day, they are the eyes of the law. the real muscle is in the courts, where you can challenge if you wish (and many times succeed).
Its up to the individual to work out the economics of fighting a ticket.
For me a $300 fine and a few points was worth writing a paragraph to the SDRO, but not worth $1000's of dollars and time off work to fight it.
In my opinion, my fine was wrong, I stated my case, and probably consumed a few man hours of a public servant's time somewhere to reach a conclusion.
My two bobs worth on drink driving penalties..06 and under,no loss of licence, just a fine.Low range .o8 and under,no loss of licence but heavy fine.High range, loss of licence for at least 9 months plus heavy fine.Too many people lose their licence and livelihood for being just over the limit. If you have obviously tried to stay under you should not lose your means to support your family.I no longer fear RBT's,they are about 25 years too late to catch me.![]()
