    Fresh meat can be deadly

Education is needed now, in these area's that are prone to infections.

To stop the infection at it's source, they must look at local customs and their diets.

It is not the eating of fruit bats or monkeys that is the problem, it's the handling of the infected live animal and their freshly killed meat before it is cooked.

The movement of the Ebola virus across species first occurs when infected fluids are contacted by the hunter picking up their fresh kill and the person preparing the meat before it is cooked, those people not being aware of the danger, haven't taken precautions.

US to Begin Testing Ebola Vaccine
    Friday, 01 Aug 2014 12:36 PM

The U.S. government will begin testing on people an experimental Ebola vaccine as early as September, after seeing positive results from tests on primates, according to media reports on Thursday.
The National Institutes of Health's infectious disease unit is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to put the vaccine into trial as quickly as possible, according to CNN and USA Today. The director of that unit could not be reached for comment.

This has been going on since march and I for one have been reading on it's spread regularly. Habit from past jobs where I had to know and track all outbreaks around the world of various diseases.
Back before 2000 we were saying that this was the future threat for the world as most deadly diseases are spreading and adapting to new environments.
Biggest thing with this outbreak is it has gone on so long and that those trying to fight it are not trusted so the infected are spreading it. At least finally it is being treated more seriously and getting the resources they should have thrown at it when first reported.

George, you would probably know this. I find it a very sensible use of modern technology, Bob

What I find staggering is how slow the response has been, given this out break started in February.

Now many have died and $100's millions are having to be thrown at it with months of uncertainty and social/economic upheaval for some of the poorest people in the world.

An article in the Courier Mail, YOUR SAY section August 4 2014

    "EBOLA scare[CM,Aug2]

I flew to Brisbane from Lagos, Nigeria on July 29. I saw no heightened sanitation or precautions whatsoever. Upon arrival in Australia , the standard form asks if you have been in Africa or South America in the past 6 days, to which I answered "yes " . Customs only enquired about my yellow fever vaccination card. I don't see Australia taking any precautionary measures at this stage. At least in Asia, they automatically take your temperature . "

Are any precautions being taken now? Bob
