Petrol...

A few thoughts, to get a few comments....

I wonder if it would be cheaper to buy petrol in bulk, i.e, when the price is around a $1 and you have a discount voucher (is there a limit on these vouchers !!), so with voucher, 96 cents, you buy $200-$300 worth of the stuff, and then only use it when the servo's are selling at $1.05 + !!! Only problem's would be storage and petrol going off, how long before petrol goes off !!!

It is no wonder you haven't seen consortiums popping up whereby 50-100 people come together as one and negotiate a contract with Shell or BP or whoever to say they will buy petrol off them at a set price, bit like what Qantas does, mind you they go though more petrol than my V8 !!!

I'm sure I've heard of co-ops in the country doing this kind of thing. Seems like a good idea to me.

I don't like to keep petrol any longer than 6 weeks. apparently it's good for at least 8, but I'm finnickey about these things...

    Cheers,

I know there was the big scare in the media last year about ethanol in fuel  , but in California they use 80% Methanol 20% ULP as a <span style="color:green">"Green Fuel" </span>and most car makers there say their vehicles will run on it 8O .

I reckon a Co-Op that buys bulk Methanol from CSR and mixes it's own fuel. Otherwise find a few thousand acres with fast growing weeds / noxious shrubs, and slash them every 6 weeks, gather and distill.

Methanol burns with an invisible flame, but when mixed with "dirty" ULP it will create a visible flame . With so much alcohol in your tank, you won't have to worry about water condensation!!!

I believe you'd end up using more fuel, but at a lower cost. What's more - you will have a<span style="color:green"> GREEN MACHINE </span>

Another thing is it's illegal 8O to store large quantities of petrol unless under ground i don't know max allowed but diesel is allowed under 1000ltr above ground, still a good idea aspecially for 4x4 clubs.

Are you sure qantas go through more fuel than your V8

I know my neighbour buys 200 litres of petrol and stores it in his shed, uses it for his boat over summer.... stores in 20lt containers. The boat drinks petrol, 2x 175 mercury engines on the back !!! And a nice big F350 to tow it

    Imagine a AULRO fuel co-op

I actually had a batch of fuel go off a week after I put it in the tank. Even after mixing it (40l), with another 40l of premium unleaded I still had problems with it. Until I used the entire 80 litres I couldn't let the car sit for more than 24hrs or I'd have trouble starting, and once started it would run rough till I could get it revving freely. This is the first and only problem I've had with bad fuel.

Disco95 -- if you are storing any fuel, I would be using a fuel conditioner which overcomes the problem of it 'going off'. It also removes any condensation and bacteria.

A mate of mine stores large quantities of diesel on his farm for machinery and uses a conditioner called Fuel Set (weird name??). They are in WA, but is a good product. If you are interested I can get some more info for you.

    Regards
