I looked at pet insurance today and it's about $1 a day ($15 a fortnight) I thought it would be dearer.

That's still over $350 a year, and don't forget - the insurance cover drops to accident only when the dog turns around 6 depending on breed, so when your best friend needs a new hip when they're 12, the insurance companies won't be there for you. It's a rip off IMO. It has been discussed in depth on another thread.
If you have as many animals as us, that would cost thousands a year. We're on a first name basis with out Vet, and although they don't run accounts, when a big bill pops up from time to time, they are happy for us to pay it off. Just part of the fun of pet ownership. :)
Fair enough. My mum's dog is 12 though and her insurance company still paid for his operation of $4k which wasn't an emergency. It was a back operation. I don't have it for our dog at the moment but have considered it after my old dog needed two cruciate operations at $3.5k a pop when he was 5. I could only afford one leg but at least he could still motor around ;). His name was Gus, hence my forum name.
This is kind of embarrassing.....my pug just living the dream
Thanks for all the well wishes ppl. Snoopy is ok. Giving him pain relief and anti inflamatories, drops and cream in the eyes. He has a stitch in one eye to stop him from opening it till it heals up. Still got the bucket on or cone of shame:D. He's in good spirits and doing great. Thanks again. Couple of really cute doggies just listed. Nice. Love that blue border collie.

I dont even have that spare a fortnight at the moment. Id rather do what i did when was working and budget and put money aside for Animal emergencys. Hopefully in clearing some stupid debts off i got stuck with and ill be able to get a good budget happening once more. I have a lot of pets so if never be able to afford insurance for them all. Id have more money anyways if didn't have them allto feed but life wouldn't be worth it without my fluffy companions who have never failed me like people have. I'll never have ao many at once again though.LOL. rescuing some just kind of happened. They are all happy and healthy apart from ted. Well hes never not happy even in the cone of shame. I just hope he doesnt have to go to rainbow bridge before he gets the bucket off. Id be so upset if his last few weeks he was wearing the bucket. Hes a fighter though.and doing well :) (i have 2 dogs, 4 cats, a turtle and3 horses. One is 27 this month and have owned him for about 15years!)
Well, I finally finished the new dog bed.
It's amazing what you can do with some old pallets.

Finally, Snoopy has got his bucket off. He's still winking a bit ;) but that's probably because he's had a stitch in his eyelid for a couple weeks. At least his eye is better, no more ulcer. He's so happy. he runs around the back yard like a little puppy. [bigsmile][bigsmile]
