This is my daughters dog Radar but as she lives in The Gong she comes up to visit friends and we get him for the weekend. He has taken a shine to my wife's bean bag and will jump all over you to get you to move so he can adopt the position.

Bloody smart critter. Had German Short Haired Pointers as a kid myself and they are one of the smartest breeds ever. Great hunters, loyal and memories like an elephant.

My parents used to breed them when i was a kid, fantastic dogs, wonderful companions, and one of the few breeds that can run down and catch hares.

They seem to have longer legs these days, though, therefore are a bit taller, particularly the dogs.

We have a Springer now,we wanted something smaller than a GSP.
She has a very similar hunting instinct, but is no where near as fast as a GSP,although has as much if not more stamina, will just keep going all day.
Her face and ears are also very similar looking to a GSP.

Great dogs. . Used to go camping with a mate that had one - he would take up patrol around the campsite and protect us all.

Wouldn't have wanted to try and sneak in and roll the campsite with him around.

Yep, he's definitely a good guard dog. When you hear a bark that deep, you'd be insane to try your luck! Not to mention he weighs more than most adult humans at 80kg!

Very sad day. Clyde - our almost 14 year old cocker spaniel had to be put down today. Deaf for about four years, terrible stinky mouth infections for about two and just lately lymphoma.

None of our friends could understand why we put up with it. Especially our smelly house. Thing was he was our first child (ie tester my wife put me through at the start of our relationship), "brother" to our two kids (8 and 6) and pretty much our best friend.

A strange coincident. Tonight "Marley and I" is on TV. When my wife and I went on our honeymoon she read the book (it had just been released) and passed it to me. We laughed as we thought we shared some of the early moments. Little did we realise we would have many more parallels.

    Goodbye Clyde. Best dog ever.

Sad news. I feel for you in your time of grief. Loss of a long term friend is hard.
    All the best.

Always very sad to lose your dog .....mine is fifteen, but so far in excellent health. Has the days when she has trouble jumping into the Defender or the 2a, but can still usually do it.

Went to the Banff Mountain Film Festival last week and this vid was shown, not many dry eyes, but a nice short film about saying goodbye to your pup.
