The latter was only a little fatty lump, nothing to be concerned about. The other was what the Vet called an STS. A Soft Tissue Sarcoma. That could be very bad. He said that without tests on the lump then theres no way of knowing if its a grade 1, harmless, or up to grade 3, very very bad. If its a grade 1 then it's cured. If its a grade 2, bad, or grade 3, very bad, then he will need chemo and all sorts of drugs. I am not able to afford the tests as they will cost $400. I also cannot afford any chemo or drug regieme. I told the Vet this, and he said that i should keep a close eye on the wound area, when its healed, and if i find any new lumps, then its bad, but if, after 6 months or so, i find nothing, he will be ok. In going with the "he will be ok" scenario. He's resting now. He's a little uncomfortable atm and he's got drugs for the next few days. He's had a pretty good innings at almost 13 yrs old. I hope he's gonna be around for a few years yet. I'd be totally lost without my true best mate. A pic below⤵

    Cheers Rod

Cancer is a bugger and it seems we're seeing it more and more in our dogs. After a few of our last group died from cancer, the worst being bone cancer requiring the removal of a back leg (wasn't my preferred procedure) and him only lasting another 7 months after 1 dose of chemo, we took out insurance on the next dog and all the ones after that.
Elly was our first greyhound and was around when Bo lost his leg, she ended up with bone cancer in one of her back legs too. The insurance covered the procedure and a full course of chemo, but unfortunately, she was weakened by it, got an infection in her bladder and cancer was detected in her organs. Even with a full course of chemo, she only lasted 4 and half months. She died on this day last year.
On a much happier note though, if you watched The Living Room on Channel 10 last Friday, you would have seen two of our Greyhounds in the story on Greyhound adoption. Ernie lying across Amanda Keller's lap and Heidi on the floor looking majestic. here's the 5 minute video.

Doing her morning chore, they have recently wrapped it differently, which had her foxed for a while.

She gets a pig ear,or sometimes a piece of roo tail as a reward.
