Ended up the entire time he was under an old trailer nursing a broken leg.

At 18 your dog has had a good wicket... sounds like she may have gone off to find a quiet place to die. All animals tend to do that when they are badly hurt or know it's time (even humans I would argue).

Sorry. mate... problem with dogs is they live long just enough to get super attached to them...

Took Snoopy to the vet today. He has a lump in his throat. Very tender to the touch. Still eating and drinking. So vet said it looks like tonsilitis. Yes dogs have tonsils. So course of antibiotics and see how we are in 10 days. Vet says undoubtedly caused by his bad teeth. Trouble is i just dont have $1800+ to get them cleaned. Hope the meds work. Sleeping 20+ hours a day. Getting old, poor old bugger...

Ours cut her paw while out on a usual walk,usual park,still don't know how she did it.

Fourteen stitches later,and my wallet well and truely lightened,she is limping around with a huge bandage on one foot.

Looks like my savings for the new Defender have taken another hit.

My German Shepherd has spinal issues and had become fecally incontinent. Poor bugger. He's 10 and doesn't look it. Cheers

Vets know how to sting you... which is why I almost never visit them. 99% of vet 'visits' are not necessary.
My Wolfhound has torn the pads on his paw several times, it always heals well if left alone.

Once he caught a large goanna, who caught him back with a three inch gash on his chest that went an inch deep. Normally if you stitch a dog's wound within 1/2 an hour it will be fine (we stitch up our animals ourselves) but this time we left it open because goanna's claws are nasty biological weapons. Instead we flushed it two or three times a day with saline solution and filled it with manuka honey... 2 weeks later, all healed up and today barely a scar.

A ma$$ive $ting from vets is paralysis ticks (you won't get much change out of $1k, if any)... something that can be cured with some $6 anti-histamine tablets and black coffee!

As long as you catch it early (as soon as you notice the back legs starting to wobble), just crush up some anti-H tablets, mix it with strong, unsweetened black coffee and force it down your dog's throat. A few hours later, it will be all better. I have personally used this method several times on different dogs with almost 100% success rate.

The ONLY time it did not work was for a dog that had been treated in the past for paralysis ticks by a vet. For some reason a vet's treatment makes the antiH ineffective
(Dog lived, because we took it to a vet when the symptoms got worse instead of better after anti-H treatment)
