My thoughts are a dog has to be well trained, and she is,more obedient to me than anyone.

And I never feed her,it’s SWMBOs job.
I have 2 fluffy shadows, my old lab staff Lucy and her side kick buffy the kitten, you can generally tell where i am by guard dog/cat.

    (Don't ask!)
The 3 dogs just love our "Daughter". She just has a total affinity with them.
If she is out we know when she is home because all 3 dogs will race to the back door to wait for her to come in.
All 3 think it is fine to sleep with her (builds up her immunity I suppose?) & she doesn't even have to call them, just looks at them & they come to her.
I have to have food to even get noticed by them.
Currently she wants to be a Vet Nurse though her career ambitions do change regularly, but I suppose you can be a Vet Nurse, Professional Soccer Player, Pilot & Roadhouse cook all at the same time??

I have a similar affinity, as when I was a toddler we stayed with an uncle that had a few ridgebacks and I was told I used to ride them like horses! Which pro'ly led to us getting our own ridgeback and when it got in the house it used to dive under my bed. I now have a feral cat I coaxed out of the wild and adopted, and it follows me around like a shadow, will even walk down the street after me.

When I was a kid, say 12 to 18 years old, i collected just about every animal known as pets and all at the same time. The back yard was a menagerie. This included various species of venomous snakes, Blue Tongue and Drop Tail lizards, a Magpie, Dogs, field mice, starlings, tortoises, eels and ever so many traditional cage bird species aka Quail, Budgies and Finches.

Being bitten or scratched was a rarity but....my younger by a couple of years was a different kettle of fish. Everything hated him and tried to bite, scratch and do him damage him. The magpie was the sneakiest. It would swoop him from the roof year round every time it saw him. I thought it was hilarious.

It is with great sadness I have to announce the passing of my best mate ever, Snoopy. He was euthanized today after having a seizure that lasted for over 4.5 hours today. He didn't come out of this one like he did in the past. The seizures usually lasted a few minutes with no after affects. 3 weeks ago he had a bad conclusive seizure which was different to the others. The vet warned me the next time he might not come back from it, and sadly, she was right. That happened today starting at about 8.30am and was still showing effects at 1.00pm. So I made the hardest decision I've ever had to make and had him put to sleep. Even tho his heart rate and breathing was normal and temp was normal, he just wasn't walking properly. He couldn't stand up or walk in a straight line any more. He had no control over his back legs. He was alert tho he was confused.

He passed quietly with me holding him in my arms. I miss him terribly.

He is resting quietly under a big tree in the bush in a place that is peaceful and quiet. I will go back out tomorrow and finish of his grave. He is resting beside a small creek that is dry atm but I've chosen a place I can visit him No matter where I may be living. My last pictures of Snoopy. And his resting place.

So sorry to hear about Snoopy, but that looks like a nice resting place in the countyside.

I never know how to "discuss" these things.
So I just "thanked" your post as both an expression of sympathy, and my thoughts are with ya, kind of thing....

So sorry to hear, Rod. We lost one of our two Borders recently, from a seizure and it's a tough gig. She's with a tree, too.

I have to say that, especially over the last six years, you have been a remarkable friend to Snoopy and I, for one, admire you for that.
