This is Jed, who came from Tassie. Rescued from an animal welfare centre by a friend of mine. Someone down there breeds them apparently, half black lab, half mastiff and they all have the same delightful nature with the equivalent of human intelligence.

Probably his real name was Jet, as in jet black. Got him when he was 2ish. Always weighed in at about 60kg, never more than 61.

Bought him this kid's theme sleeping bag thing at an op shop.......... he thought it was kinda real:

There a lots of other pics and vids of him. At least as smart as most people, gentle with other dogs and kids and a real highlight in my life, best mate for the last 12 years.

Died yesterday, 14 and a half.

    cheers, DL

He really knew how to put it on.

A few years ago we went to the local vet branch for his annual vax's, etc. Got on the scales by himself then led me to the corner chair where he lay upright ..on the floor with his head up and crossed his front legs and stared at the door the vet was going to come out of.

Sure enough the female vet comes out and goes 'Ooh, just look at you!', we get up, he looks at me and wags his tail and in we go. Knew exactly what he was doing.

    Even got his toenails clipped.

Monty and Bailey, Part american cocker spaniel and part Jack Russell, which makes them Cockerjacks? Who knew there was such a thing...
Brothers, Monty is short and white like a JR, Bailey is taller and finer with a tan coat, like a (very short haired!) cocker.
This pen is usually bigger but they have just been desexed and the Vet wanted them "quiet" for two weeks--- got quiet pills and everything!
So those two coneheads and Di with a plaster cast on her arm and me, all wrapped up inside a caravan..

Picked him up yesterday. He's extremely thin and timid.
Hopefully, with a lot of TLC and good tucker, we will soon have another rough, tough, farm dog.

Well now, 4 months later and Mr. Henry has settled in quite well, especially on the day bed on the deck. He was a little put out when disturbed.

You'd be put out if he commandeered your (afternoon) couch.

Our Pip , if we gave him a tennis ball he would strip the skin off it in less than a couple of minutes

Now that's a proper dog... Big, gentle and smart. Sounds just like our last dog (rottie/rhodensian ridgback cross). She was giant sized, but the gentlest dog I've ever seen. I think it because they are so fearless. A dog that is never scared is rarely aggressive. That's a huge innings for a big dog. We only got 12.5 years from ours. My wife gets annoyed with me when I keep calling the dog we have now "not a proper dog" ... or "not a real dog". 'Cos of course everything gets compared back to the gentle giant.
