I do not auto renew because I do not like PayPal.

Can you migrate to the new payment gateway in stages. Set up the new one and use it for annual subscriptions and new auto renewals, and faze out pay pal after this years auto renewal?

Another vote for you doing whatever is the easiest solution for you.
