    Subscriptions

    That old bugbear, subscriptions.

to be frank, i am really getting to be over paypal.

they offer no protection for me as a seller and are a law unto themselves, breaking their own terms and conditions at will.

i have offered auto renewing subscriptions because numerous people asked me on numerous occasions to implement it for the sake of their convenience etc etc etc.

trouble is people tend to forget they have set them up, hit paypal with an unauthorized transaction and i then get nasty notes from paypal telling me i am stealing money from people and to be utterly frank i am really getting to be over it.

i then have to spend considerable time seeking and providing the proof they require to show that the transaction was a genuine subscriber initiated debit and something the person themselves setup, not something i have concocted to defraud people of their hard earned pennies.

and then they still decide that i am a fraudster and refund the money...

which is fine apart by me apart from the fact that i have wasted a heap of time complying with their requests for info that they then just decide to ignore the supplied proof of anyway.

    so....

i can't simply stop offering them as they already exist so i cant delete them

i can however change payment gateways to something else such as authorize.net, who have an australian branch and tell paypal to jam it.

that will cause many current auto subscriptions to fall over and not renew thus upsetting many valuable hard to come by subscribers..

    win win NOT....

anyway, will be talking to authorize.net to see if they offer a suitable service.

How big is the list of auto renew subscribers? Can you send them an email asking them directly how much it will tick them off if you were to change the system?
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

the system does.. or should i say, tries to....

it sends an email saying it will debit the account in the next couple of days..

seems few read them or they end up in the spam folder and many have old email addresses in the system that bounce so they don't get them.. for whatever reason.

I would definitely rather pay by my debit card, and give paypal a miss. I only did the auto pay thing because it seemed the way AULRO preferred it to be done. Bob

I pay via paypal but do not have the auto renew box ticked - I assume that once a year I get the auto generated email telling me my subscription is due and I pay by paypal.

This system seems to work so why not just ditch the auto renew function.

Inc, another company I deal with uses another Aussie operated gateway for CC transactions.

Can't remember ATM, will try and find later and let you know.
