Another thing I noticed on the Canning is the 44 gallon drums left around the place, not so much the drums themselves, guess they'll eventually rust away like the car bodies, but people seem to think they're rubbish bins, the amount of rubbish left in them was truly sad. Do they think the council will be through next week to empty them?

The point is, you don't need a dump point with the new bio degradable chemicals. It is quite safe to deposit the contents of the bottom tank along the way.[ at least that was told to me by the gentleman selling the product] Even the paper degrades down . A porta potti weighs a couple of kilos, best fitted in a roof top basket, and you have to factor in the water used. If there is room, a valuable addition to your camping gear, I think, Bob

True bob, but my point is, do you have room for something that's not actually a necessity. Water, food, fuel are a bit more important on that track, I know we had no room, nore did any of the other cars for a makeshift toilet.
I saw no evidence of toilet paper and rubbish on the canning, yes a lot of 44's, and the only ones we came across with rubbish in them was at well 33, which are actual bins that get emptied by the nearby community..
Well 6 is building a self composting toilet from memory, it already has the trailer under the long drop job.

    Porta Potti

Since we are talking ****, Porta Potti is a generic term and a brand, like Hoover.

Is the Porta Potti the best brand to purchase, or are there better alternatives.

I would hate to buy a crap brand and end up in the ****.

Hey djam - that's really similar to the one we got from the USA for our MAN Truck build.

Nature's Head Composting Toilets: Saving Our Water for Tomorrow

Does it have any odors at all? How long can you travel for before it needs emptying? Is it a drama to empty?

    Thanks

Yes they are closely related to the Natures Head
They will go for about 60 craps

Must admit I was cynical but they don't smell at all and the soil that you empty out isn't at all unpleasant.

If anyone needs one I have a Dometic VT2500 Vacuum Toilet that I removed from the Motorhome sadly I was foolish enough to spend $750 on it before I pulled it out.
