I have a Thetford. Does the job, no complaints so far. We have a popup tent [ shower tent] we use for privacy, we also use the Thetford at home when we have a do, use it as an outside toilet. Possibly the only criticism is it's a bit close too the ground for tall people, consideration for some kind of stand/ couple of logs etc., could be useful, Bob

And Thetford make the brand PortaPotti. They are the original and best IMHO. They don't leak and the flush works brilliantly. They also have a non stick bowl surface. Which is important. Trust me

The thunder box is an interesting solution, but you still have the bury/burn/carry issue.

I saw no evidence of toilet paper and rubbish on the canning, yes a lot of 44's, and the only ones we came across with rubbish in them was at well 33, which are actual bins that get emptied by the nearby community..
Well 6 is building a self composting toilet from memory, it already has the trailer under the long drop job.

Damien, your statement "that's not actually a necessity" will come back to bite you in years to come.
I was talking to 2 Rangers in a South Coast NP about the problem of toilet paper streamers all over the place, even under 50m from a perfectly good drop toilet.
They said that once the 3 drop toilets in this park were full they were not going to be replaced, I said that would create more ****ty streamers than now.
They said if people could not take their **** and toilet paper back out of the park with them then the parks would have to be closed as they didn't have the resources to clean up after these pigs that leave their crap all over the place.
So Damien when you see your local NP closed to 4WD's and Campers because people don't bring there own toilets and take out their crap with them you will realise it is a Necessity, NOW not later after the parks are closed.
Before I got my Camper trailer I used to carry all my gear and my Porta-Potti in the back of my Disco 1, you just have to plan your loading a lot better and don't take anything you don't need, Regards Frank.
