						Now, bearing in mind that I'm not a city dweller, I live in a town that is essentially 3 blocks by about 6 or 7 (and only one policeman), I've been described more than once as a hick and a redneck, and that I visit suburbia/the coast as infrequently as I can manage, I hope it isnt portraying me as an example of "simple country folk" when I ask;
Has the purpose of a grease nipple changed in any way, shape or form at any time in the last, say, five to ten years?
What's a grease nipple?
Grease nipples changed from Imperial to Metric diamensions in the 70's so you may find a mixture of both sizes in your work, particularly if it involves farm implements.
No they haven't changed, the one that is most important is always the hardest to get at and you don't realise that it is blocked/stuffed until a large bit of fresh grease drops on your noggin, because the grease has gone everywhere except in that little hole, Regards Frank.

They come, and always have, in a wide variety of thread systems and sizes. We used to use some in 1/2" BSPP in marine work so one could get a decent grip on corroded in nipples. The actual nipple has not changed for decades although there are a couple of types still in occasional use. Got a decent bolt shop in town? They should have a catalogue otherwise have a look on the all-knowing internet.

Ding ding ding ding ding! we have a winner!
Me: have you ever greased this thing?
Customer: No, are you meant to?
Me: Its got grease nipples.
Customer: It has?
Me: *points*
Customer: Nobody told us when we bought it
Me: If something has grease nipples its usually self explainatory.....
Customer: Oh.....
Tank, I rarely use a clip-on coupler, instead I have a couple of different grease needles, it limits the mess because the grease goes directly into the nipple, if I need to exert undue force to get the grease in, it encourages me to investigate before things get messy, and I can get a grease needle in where traditional couplers dont fit.....
In other news.... I was a little shocked on sunday night working on some old machinery to find some button type grease nipples that were stamped with the makers name.... guessing they come from a time when a manufacturer wasnt ashamed to advertise who made the product....
Apologies if I was a bit cryptic..... I don't believe the purpose of a grease nipple has changed. I find it annoying trying to find replacement ball joints, uni's etc that can be greased. It's usually the reason they are flogged in the first place.

are those those dual purpose things on the calipers that you can use to bleed the brakes.
so what's a 'general purpose' grease for use in such situations (land rover specific)?
Noticed a few under my 90 when I was under there snooping about.
Never owned a grease gun, but now might be the time.
That being said, I don't want to have 10 of them to keep a lifetime's supply of grease up to each part...
