the RR changed to bosch electrics somewhere around then, if it is a post change, things would be better. I mean anything is better than having lucas electrics 8O

I don't mind the look myself.

Some have had trouble with the suspension as well and have removed all the fancy stuff and put in plain old coils. Apparently all the expensive stuff in the standard suspension is rather expensive to fix.

1997 model still had GEMS. The Bosch system wasn't introduced untill 1999.

The 4.6 may be ready to throw in the towel with a slipped liner or similar causing loss of coolant.

If the radiator hasn't been serviced, make sure that is done if you buy it - or just shell out for a new radiator (which I'd recommend. If I'd done that I might not have needed to replace the engine). You cannot afford to overheat the 4.6. Ask me how I know. (I was also in the local LR mechanics this week and they were replacing the engine in a 1997 HSE. I replaced mine a couple of months ago.)

Check that the temperature controls on the air con work on both sides of the car. It's a bit of a job to replace the blend flap motors (been there, done that). Make sure that the chequebook symbol isn't on in the HEVAC display. Belnd flap motors wear out - they are a consumable item. but they are bloody expensive.

If the SRS light is on, get it reset otherwise it may not pass RWC inspection.

Give the brakes a good jab and make sure that they stop you efficiently. The accumulator may be in need of replacement. I just replaced mine and what a difference it made to the brakes. Time how long it takes for the brake warning light to go out after an overnight stop or after fully depressurising the brakes by pumping them (with the engine off) for about 30 times. It should be be extinguished in less than 45 seconds. (You'll need to have the handbrake released to see this). Without pressure you have bugger all brakes (I've run into objects when I haven't waited for the brakes to pressurise).

Exercise the air suspension up and down. Note how often the EAS compressor runs. The compressor may need replacement. Budget on one.

No, it refers to the fuel injection computer used on the Thor engine.
