    Gazza - sorry to hear.

At least you went to the doc and got diagnosed.

99% of people who think they have "the flu" have just got a cold.

    Influenza is a reportable/notifiable disease.

My last (and only second) bout of the 'flu knocked me around so badly... that my Wife was genuinely sympathetic.....

And before you ask,Yes, had the flu vaccination... then felt a bit "off" for a year or four afterwards... then got the first dose.
No, I won't be having another jab... prefer to build up my natural immune system, get sufficient sleep/de-stress etc etc.

I can sympathise Gazza. I've had a couple of bouts of proper flu (the second of which was a couple of years ago) and it's like being hit by a truck. Both times it's been a case of go to bed and stay there for a couple of weeks.

The worst thing is that you can never catch the bugger who sneaks in every hour to empty the hot lava out of your bones and replaces it with ice! And why should your skin ache? Who inserts that bit of sandpaper between eyelid and eyeball?

The worst part of the first one I had was that it turned into vertigo for me - the virus attacked my inner ear, and I spent another couple of weeks having to hold on when I laid down.

So when you hear people with a bit of a leaky nose going on about how they have the flu.....nah mate, you've got a cold. Bit of a headache and a sore throat? You'll live.

But a proper bout where you're not even sure that you can stand to go the toilet, and every part of your body aches......you'll have my sympathy.

Actual influenza rates annually are about 50 per 100000 people - Australian average.

It seems in this thread we have lots of people reporting colds as influenza, as per usual.

So far in our small little town of 5000 my doctor told me there have been 32 confirmed cases that he knew about and yes I was one of them all were diagnosed by the proper tests and I was lucky enough to now to be told I have bronchial pneumonia, just got this good news from my tests results and x-rays at the doctors a few munities ago and here I was thinking I was over the worst of it, no wounder I haven't been able to breathe without sitting up in a chair at night and that explains my chest pain as well, at least I have got something for this that may help and if I am not an better by tomorrow arvo its of to the hospital. so to anyone who does have this flu you have my sympathy.
