Can anyone please tell me why a 9 year old girl needs to use a automatic weapon?,i can't be the only one who finds this recent death at a USA shooting range bloody stupid.
In 2012 a 10 year old boy died when the recoil from a automatic weapon caused the weapon to turn in his hands and back on himself.
The report showed several shooting ranges across the states and some of these ranges had age limits as low as 6 years old(Texas).
On another note the shooting range where this latest tragedy took place is called "Bullets And Burgers" you can't get more American than that.
I have nothing to say. Bob

I don't know how the recoil from an Uzi compares with the recoil from an Owen, but is saw a similar inability to control recoil at Singleton Army Camp in the early 60s.
At school cadet camp, NCOs were allowed the privilege of a couple of bursts from an Owen.
One of our sergeants was a very lightly built 15 year old. In spite of his best efforts to control the Owen and in spite of being warned that the gun would "climb" as he fired it , his first shot went into the butts, the second into the brick wall behind the butts and the third one went clean over the top.

When on patrol boats in Darwin in the 80's, every patrol we did a small arms shoot. Only because it was required, and the box had to be ticked. I thought the Navy was taking a chance by letting non Gunnery rate sailors, who had not been properly trained in the use of small arms, get their hands on the weapons for an hour every 6 weeks. I believed it would have been more beneficial to send the crew to the Army in Darwin to be properly trained first up, then have the shoot with a proper background of training. It was all a matter of time , we didn't have any spare. A 9 year old? Good God. And the F1 [ Owen gun successor] , did kick up, but I found if you took charge with the left arm [ right handed] and leant into it, it was surprisingly accurate at close range , with short bursts. We shot at targets floating in the sea, usually the safest place would be sitting on the target, Bob![]()

I clearly recall that our NCOs were told to "lean into it" or similar words. Even with that advice our sergeant, who probably weighed only a bit more than that 9 year old girl, couldn't control it.

That poor, poor girl. (And obviously the family etc of the instructor, who probably had kids of his own....)
This was totally avoidable.
That country is totally out of control. Gun crazy, right to bare earms etc BLA BLA BLA. All THAT does is get MORE people killed. As unfortunate and tragic as that 1 of many incidents is, I am not at all surprised.
Before anyone here says anything, I appreciate firearms and strongly believe they have a place, just not in the hands of power hungry, crazed lunatic fringe Americans who are encouraged by their constitution to carry them.

We had a WO2 regular Cadre Staff for Jawforce, oops, Norforce, come on a patrol with us, good bloke , I think he was the RQMS for them. Not too hard to work out why we invited him. We showed him all the fleshpots of the west coast..... as if, but he was well looked after. The official reason for his presence was he was going to demonstrate the operation of the 40 mm grenade launcher, under the armalite ? rifle. He was a Vietnam veteran, and hit the target, which was about 50 yards out. Impressed us no end, and by the shocked look on his face , surprised him. As the 40 mm left the launcher, a small hot piece flew off & hit the elbow of our only Gunnery rate, poetic justice, we all said. No sympathy was recorded. Bob.
