    pardon my french

but this little arsewipe has just stolen emense amounts of money from those australians who could least afford to lose it, the aged, the ill, the handicapped and the homeless.

time for a little ground swell here in AU in my humble opinion...

There is no greater cause at the moment, I am happy for my taxes to go to this.

$1 billion, while to you and me sounds a lot of money, is not much in terms of our overall economy. $500m of the $1Bill is not actually cash, it is assistance with long term loans.

Longer term it is probably money well spent. Indonesia is the world's second largest Muslim country and it ain't going anywhere. Better we become their best mates! Love to all mankind!

By the way, $1Bn (AUD) = <500m (USD).

A billion dollars certainly is a lot of money, but it is aid, not cash.

The way I understand it the money will go through the Ausaid program, which means the Aus government will decide where and when it will be used and Australian companies get the work.

The Ausaid program is already pretty big, so my guess is a lot of the money will come from cuts to projects to other countries. Just a guess.

I believe Ausaid sends a lot of work to Australian companies and this gives them a presence and experience in a region therefor it can be a leg up for Australian countries trying to break into overseas work, winning export dollars.

    Have a look here.

I can't believe you lot are winging about this. I'm proud to be Australian and it makes me feel great to know that we can do so much to help those in need. This is a tragedy beyond our comprehension, you go there and see what's left of their lives, imagine that happening to you. These people have nothing left :!:
So far Little Johnny has done a far better job with this country than the previous labour governments did, this is evident in the fact that we can give this sort of aid at all. I don't think he and Costello would destroy out economy on purpose. I mean it could be worse, we could be paying 17% on our mortgages again :!:
What's China doing :?: They're a massive population, What about the churches :?: Has the pope put his hand up to help out this way :?: Surely they'd only have to sell three or four paintings out of the Vatican to make up the cost.
And while we're on it, where's all the Muslims :?: How many of them are victims of this, why aren't they doing all they can to help their own :?:
