Hey Outlaw,
Why the fascination with big block diesels? - these are as heavy as ****.
The Euro diesels are far superior to the Japanese and American diesels - this is why they are such big motors to compensate for the lack of technology.
The best and most refined diesels - as in best power / torque to weight ratios, smoothness of driving, robustness are ALL European. Merc / BMW / Peugeot / Audi are all class leaders in this field - hence why Ford have an association with Peugeot for diesel motors for 20+ years now.
As most Euro motors are relatively small capacity they have to be more technologically advance - the acceptance of diesel in Europe is huge.
My mate in the UK has just purchased a BMW 3 Series Convertible with their latest 2 litre 4 cylinder TDI motor - goes like stink and doesn't cost a fortune to run (less pollution tax, car tax, insurance, fuel etc)
When Australia finally catch up with the burning of fossil fuels and altering the taxation of vehicle in such a way, then people may realise what they are purchasing.
But just my 10c worth.

sorry - previous post sounded as a rant.
was not ment to beops:
But to add to the above, Why did International buy the rights to the old 300 TDI (powering Ford trucks & utes in America)?
Superior technology to theirs, but not good enough for the European market.

my old man has an X5 with the 3L Diesel and she does go
but as for my fascination, pure and very simple really... I love the F series trucks and 7.3L sounds better than 3L... ha, bet you weren't expecting that reasoningops: i am blessed with the pure ignorance of not knowing what makes things tick or work at it's best
