Nah, consumers are the last people this government cares about.
NZ has had this for decades and it hasn't meant the end of civilization as we know it.
Our safety standards are actually lower than world's best practice, so there is no valid safety argument against imports, which might actually be safer and cheaper than what we get now, considering that this government has seen our vehicle manufacturing industry killed off.

Bring it on the manufactures can't have their cake and eat it to. Now they have snubbed us all they are now are importers why should they be protected. Coming over from nz to oz was bit like a time warp finding vehicles with ony the basic spec in them.

Yep, the UK import vehicles have usually higher spec, lower km and things like manual gearboxes which the official agents have decided we just don't need.

Japanese import vehicles however are usually tinny, noisey (road noise) and built for comfortable cruising at 80km/h on smooth roads.

Anyone here driven the 6sp manual Evoque?

You need to get them while there young though. I have owned (and still own) pommy imports.... Can anyone say rust .... unbelievable ... staggering amounts of underbody hidden rust. Cars dissolve over there on the salted roads.

You'd need to get them before there a few years old, before the galvanizing wears off.

Importing brand new cars from the UK is significantly cheaper than buying the same cars from a dealer here.

On the used cars, absolutely. But rust protection is better than it used to be.
